Despite the fact that several (non-overlapping) generations of JWs were assured by the organization that they would never grow old in this system and therefore didn't need education, health care planning, retirement planning, and the like, JWs today keep buying into that illusion.

The mindset is that if the statement was true 50 or 100 years ago, it must be even more so today, since the end is that much closer.

The thought that the whole premise is false seems never to enter their minds.

If it does, it is too painful to consider...

At one of my last DC's I ended up sitting next to an exCO and his wife. They had just come out of the service and were plunked down into congregation. They were visibly shaken and very worried about how things would play out. Their monthly stipends attached to the "Special Pioneer" label given to them was not nearly enough for them to live on. The congregation was expected to fill in with the rest. They had only been there a few weeks and they were so worried. I felt so bad for them. I gave them some "gas" money. I'll never forget them.

The WTBS is such an arrogant, greedy organization. Even the greed of the RCC is surpassed by them. At least the RCC has charities.

The congregation in our town is kind of a boneyard for older COs and DOs. People have room on their property for mobile-homes and granny-guest houses. All of those years and that's how they end up. They are stars locally so that should help massage the ego.

All charities and secular organizations are considered Part of Babylon

so Jehovah's Witnesses are discouraged to be a part of such

" For example, a person might renounce his place in the congregation by his actions, such as by becoming a part of a secular organization that has objectives contrary to the Bible and, hence, is under judgement by Jehovah God." _______Organized to do jehovah's will book page 155

    If someone says______

Why don't you people get involved in doing things to help make the world ( the community ) a better place to live ?

    Then perhaps add:

    (1) " Some do it by establishing institutions, hospitals, homes for the elderly, rehabilitation centers for drug addicts, and so forth."_____Reasoning from the Scriptures book page 208

    (2) " We have observed that there is something that can transform a persons entire outlook on life, and that is knowledge of what the Bible shows to be the real purpose of life and what the future holds."______Reasoning from the Scriptures book page 208

Bottom line : This ain't the real life. When you get old, your mind play tricks

Then you start to think you need more than the spiritual food provided

    by the Governin' Body

Oh ye elderly ones have Little faith. Wait on Jehovah.

Take up a Bible study and bump your gums 'til the kingdom come

When the Bible student ask why your stomach growl so loud

Tell 'em you ain't hungry. Cuz you already ate some spiritual food

The 'possibility' that you will not grow old is one of their selling points to sucker people in. My Aunt told me a few years ago that she can't believe she grew old. I didn't say anything to her. But seriously, folks, again, what evidence is there to support you'll never grow old? There is none.

There is not one person in the history of all humanity that has ever not died. No one gets out of this life alive.

As I explained to one JW lady, this religion is performanced based. My Father who now has dementia is no longer capable of understanding and can no longer perform for them. Therefore, technically, he is no longer a witness. He just can't do it anymore.

Getting ill or growing old are not in alignment with the WTS agenda of conducting door-to-door witnessing and meeting attendance. This is really only a religion for the young, able-bodied, and able-minded.

they depend on this old system of things to bail them out. Try and pretend the end is near and well if it isn't we know we will all grow old. They are no part of this world until it comes to using its resources. They see no reason not too, after all , they are God's chosen people. I was told this is why there are no schools, nursing homes, hospitals etc strictly for jws. I have seen jws use world facilities before, almost exclusively for themselves, but as far as I know none of this is WTS sponsored, ie like the catholic church.

I predict that this will all change as soon as WTS realizes all the bucks there are to be made in caring for elderly indigent people. Medicaid pays big money for the care of these people. WTS could encourage young publishers and pioneers (allowed to count their time) to volunteer at these facilities (more FREE labor) while they pocket the Medicaid $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Another great post that gets to the heart of a matter, Terry.

Its psychologically abusive too. Personally, I don't accept that I'll be a senior, one day. After 40-plus years of believing that old age will never arrive, I have a hard time reconciling the illusion to reality. I'm sure I'm not alone.
