Do I beleive in GOD?

    Monsieur:

im simply calling God what god is, perfect and logical. and what could be more perfect and logical than provable mathematics and science. there is absolutely nothing esoteric or philosophical about these two subjects IF you understand them.

In a sence, you can define words any way you like. For instance I could say: "I define aliens as math and science, therefore aliens exist". According to my definition of aliens then I am correct. However I have gone no way as far as showing there are actual small green men (or whatever) somewhere in the universe, and personally I find this re-definition of words to be tiresome, counter-productive and really remind me of humpty-dumpty (It mean what i say it means).

You might beg to differ, but you have gone no way as far as showing there is an intelligent, thinking god.

I am very late to this thread, but...

I believe in God, I am a Christian. There are definite absurdities with the Christian faith (why is god often silent? Why suffering? Etc) I don't pretend to have all the answers, but I also think that no matter which path we take we run into sometimes different but still massive absurdities, whether it be atheism or another religion (why are we never fulfilled? Why do we seek meaning in a universe that offers none? Etc)

So why christianity? The core of Christian teaching is that we are loved and accepted, I believe this, I don't feel like going into details on a discussion board but I believe I've had prayers answered, direct experiences and that I have a real personal relationship with Jesus. I have doubts sometimes but I find I can't completely reject this no matter how much anyone wants to shout me down as a deluded fool. :-P

The core of the christian gospel is to condemn everybody as a miserable broken sinner. Salvation is only possible by accepting this dehumanising assertion.

We all long to be accepted entirely for who we are, but we also have flaws and aspects of ourselves we don't like, or regular thoughts we know we can't share if we want to earn social acceptance, so we create a mask we try to hide behind to earn love. When we come across someone who knows everything about us the natural reaction is to start apologising, just as if your wife could read your thoughts you'd probably find yourself apologising on a much more regular basis! But don't confuse a natural reaction as something we must do to please god.

There is nothing more humanising than someone we can stop pretending with, be completely honest with, and know that we won't be rejected no matter what. (imo)

By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.

So that things which are seen - The point of the remark here is, that the visible creation was not moulded out of pre-existing materials, but was made out of nothing. In reference to the grammatical construction of the passage, see Stuart, Commentary in loc. The doctrine taught is, that matter was not eternal; that the materials of the universe, as well as the arrangement, were formed by God, and that all this was done by a simple command. The "argument" here, so far as it is adapted to the purpose of the apostle, seems to be, that there was nothing which "appeared," or which was to be "seen," that could lay the foundation of a belief that God made the worlds; and in like manner our faith now is not to be based on what; "appears," by which we could infer or reason out what would be, but that we must exercise strong confidence in Him who had power to create the universe out of nothing. If this vast universe has been called into existence by the mere word of God, there is nothing which we may not believe he has ample power to perform.
