I guess they finally reached that "time to suspend the publication" [of the WT magazine].

Well, I guess they are at least half-way there. With the start of the 16pg WT & Awake! they are only publishing "half" of the mags that they used to publish.

We forget that prior to Rutherford changing the local Bible Student churches into "Kingdom Halls" and elders into "Company Servants" in the late 1930s -every congregation was completely autonomous and used local donations for their own needs. For the most part that situation remained through the 1960s. When elders became "overseers" and "boards of elders" were established, local control diminished greatly. Now Kingdom Halls and their managers are just like McDonalds restaurants. The layout is the same. The signage is the same. The materials are the same. Even the public talks are 100% scripted. The look and smell are all the same. Except now the elders are simply local managers for Watchtower HQ. They might as well put big TV screens in every Kingdom Hall and have "big brother" produce and pipe everything in directly from Patterson, NY via Internet links.

With the Watchtower's complete conversion to the Internet (it's coming folks!!!) all judicial meetings, major public addresses, and even Watchtower studies can be conducted right from WT HQ.

Watch as local control is eventually diminished to replacing toilet paper and locking the doors and everything else being delivered on wide screen TV installed behind a curtain on the stage. All local control and personalities will be eliminated.

I expect this to happen within the next ten years. I fully expect the Governing Body to become inspired by spirit and decide that they should be the ONLY VOICE representing Jehovah worldwide. And when that happens you can expect plenty of well produced commercials before and after those talks pushing for more money, more contributions to the worldwide work...

"mo money, mo money, mo money..."

I think it is probably intended to be a routine reminder. "We never ask for donations like the world does. But Jehovah loves you when you contribute to his organization."

    Ahhh...Jehovah loves me...

Routine reminders are given in the WT and a service meeting part not an official Letter

@ JV - This is a diabolical money-making strategy. I saw it on the Circuit level when I was still an elder the same thing happened. We got reamed for not sending more of "the surplus to mother" to hold onto by the DO.

Who ever said that flattery will get you nowhere?

WT bullshits the rank and file with the following smooooth words for their own gain:

'While many spend their resources on personal pleasures and on enriching their own lives, you faithful ones have put the needs of others ahead of your own. One way this is accomplished is by your monetary contributions.....'

RAY, I saw the same thing a decade ago while still serving as an elder. When working in the accounting dept, more than once I had a publisher approach me (knowing they'd not get the riot act from me) about why the "rent" on our own AssmHall was so costly for the CirAssm or SAD. They knew it should have been paid off for many years. There simply was no logical explanation.

Most elders are obviously just rolling over when it comes to this money-grabbing at the circuit level and now at the cong level. Of course, to ask any questions would be a sign of disloyalty and bring their qualifications into question when the CO shows up. They know or quickly learn that if they want to continue to have their title, they better shut the hell up and do what they are told. (See Nov 15 WT Pg 20 Par 17).
