It is true that when JWs actually dwell on a matter, or investigate a subject by actually researching it, it tends to be the Watchtower's kiss of death!

AMIII 's worst fear is metrosexusls and men in tight pants :

    .

“…they have what they call now the ‘metro-sexual’ look”

    .

“What it means is that, if they have a suite on, or their pants extremely tight all the way down to the ankles, very, very tight.”

    .

“What’s wrong is this extremely tight pants!”

    ,

“And I want you brothers to think about this: Many, many, many homosexuals are in the clothing industry and doing the designing. Don’t you know they love it when you’re wearing tight pants?

    .

    Oh yeah…. You chuckle. I don’t think it’s funny. I think it’s disgusting!

    Think hard about it.

    .

You don’t look as good as you think you look, except to a homosexual… You look disgusting!” Jehovah disciplines those he loves. Are you going throw away those pants?

I never knew metrosexuals wore tight pants.

I do think GB member Morris is a homosexual.

    Okay, so far, we got:

    - loyalty to families over the GB
    - R&F losing faith in the GB
    - R&F passively disobeying the GB
    - the possibility that "apostates" might be right
    - member apathy
    - losing control (that's the awesomest animated gif I've ever seen, Outlaw)
    - the internet
    - education and critical/independent thinking
    - elders waking up
    - less "qualified" bothers to serve
    - future liabilities
    - courts and fines
    - 100+ years without the Big A
    - exposure of past errors and embarassments
    - nothing new and/or exiting about WT theology
    - hate speech becoming increasingly unpopular
    - humanity actually getting better, not worse

All together, it seems like their biggest fear is simply the Modern World.

Anybody who still doesn't believe that the WTS is fighting for its life is, IMO, naive.

And even if it's doing so just in its own mind, there've been plenty of other groups through history that - in believing they were at the brink - ended up circling the drain as a result of that mindset.

The new elders of today can't hold a candle to the men I knew. Many of the oldtimers were proud that they weren't Stepford men. They would disagree with a CO and write their own letters to the Society, if they believed they were being given incorrect info. The elders of today are all yes men. Then they get burnt out and remain barely active.

The most likely fact concerning the GB turning up its power and control within the organization itself comes at

the lack of any actual occurrences of what the organization has preached for the last century.

    .

No great tribulation, no great persecution over all religions, no great signs of the end times that distinguishes

the last 20th century from the previous 19th century, no this generation occurrence from 1914 and finally no

    Armageddon.

    .

The WTS is essentially now tripping over its many commercialized false doctrines and there is a

beginning of doubts and questioning from many JWS who have been associated with this organization

for a long time, from publishers to elders to CO's DO's and branch heads.

    .

There is a fracturing of the frame work of this organization that is starting to show, not so surprising

given what the WTS. taught and preached for so long.

    .

So what does the GB do ?

A call for loyalty directed toward themselves as a means to reconfirm their power and control.

If you cant use honesty and integrity then use fear and ignorance, most of the time you'll

    win.

The burn out woke me up. It's like a second job. Tons of rules. Get to meeting early or be threatened. Go out in service more or be threatened. Agree with the CO or be threatened. Have no opinion or be threatened. No freedom. Extra scrutiny. Being a loving person is not a requirement. Being a ambitions "reaching out" yes man is. Nothing like what Jesus taught. Better to be R&F and do whatever you want.

They are afraid that their rebranding efforts will fail. They don't want to be the "new Coke."

I think this has been an interesting thread, good work minimus.

I think you hit the nail on the head, the biggest threat is THE MODERN WORLD, simply put....reality.

The world IS getting better, not worse. World War 1 was a long time ago now, the world has moved on. Watchtower was fertilised in the human catastrophe of those early 20th century wars. But life has moved on, information is becoming as available as air.

Watchtower looks more immoral, outdated by the year. The JW's are embarassed and non vocal on so many doctrines. Ask a JW their thoughts on gays nd watch how red they get, ask thier thought on non JW's dying and watch them stammer. Watch them try to pretend they don't shun, don't deny ALL blood, don't want to convert people just encourage sprituality.....

The longer life goes on, the bigger the lie they are living. Before long the 'go' bag by the door, will be an expensive 'old light' in the attic.
