Apog: besides the fact that JWs do not believe in child baptism

While JWs don't practice INFANT baptism, they certainly encourage CHILD baptism. And that decision, made as a child has lifetime consequences if they change their views once they are an ADULT!

Welcome Impala. Run to the hills my friend the watchtower organization is not for you.

I'm not really sure what to do at this point.

As a person raised in the watchtower and now in my 50's I can assure you it is not a place to cultivate anything godly. It is a man made, man run big business posing as a religion that uses thought reform to indoctrinate and brainwash.

I love them, and the studies that we have are enlightening and fun.

Just because you love these people doesn't mean you are obligated to join this anti-Christ cult. As soon as you say you are not interested they may well drop you like a hot brick. Perhaps they will call on you from time to time so that they can report back every month on their report slip so the elders will not judge tham harshly.

Beware of what is 'enlightening' in this cult......they cherry pick scriptures to further the money grabbing agenda of the 8 leaders in Brooklyn N.Y.

Here is my favourite quote which endorses brainwashing......Minds = Brain......Cleansed = Washed

"Minds must be cleansed" (Watchtower, June 1, 1953, p. 350 par. 24). 24 In these closing days of wickedness Jehovah’s people must demonstrate holiness. They must not foul their minds with the filthy mental food on the propaganda tables of this old world, but must feed on the feast of fat things Jehovah provides. (Isa. 25:6; 28:8.) Minds must be cleansed and made over, mental circuits formed by old-world thinking and acting faded out and new ones put in according to new-world specifications. By privately studying regularly, by attending all meetings regularly, and by engaging in all features of the preaching work regularly mental circuits are deepened and such good activities become habitual, not at all the struggle they are when the mental circuits are weak and faint because used only occasionally. For ourselves and for others, make them strong!—1 Tim. 4:16.

echo all the advice on here, run away from them, the are the very opposite of the "truth" they will bring you nothing to your life, just hatred, anger and bitterness, if you tell this "wonderfull" couple you study with some of the research you have been doing watch them drop you like you've got a contagious disease, not so great friends are they ?

Great quote, Punkie. This part caught my attention: "Minds must be cleansed and made over....By privately studying regularly.."

    .

My question is: why does WT encourage private Bible study when it specifically says that study cannot result in a JW forming any personal opinions about what he reads? Answer: WT tells a JW what the answer is, and that JW has no choice but to agree.

    .

"Avoid questioning the counsel [doctrine] that is provided by God's visible organization. Watchtower 1983 Jan 15 p.22

"However, we cannot hope to acquire a good relationship with Jehovah if we ignore those whom Jesus has appointed to care for his belongings. Without the assistance of "the faithful and discreet slave," we would neither understand the full import of what we read in God’s Word nor know how to apply it." Examining the Scriptures Daily 2012 Mar 4

"First, since "oneness" is to be observed, a mature Christian … does not advocate or insist on personal opinions or harbor private ideas when it comes to Bible understanding." Watchtower 2001 Aug 1 p.14

    .

Here's what "private "studying" " really means in Watchtower Land:

"Often the very best and most beneficial studying you do is that done when you read a new Watchtower or Awake! or a new book" --W 6/1/1967

    .

In reality, a JW does not need to read the Bible at all; the reason is, ultimately he is allowed to believe only what the WT tells him the Bible says. Personal Bible reading is a complete waste of time for a JW.

Personal bible reading is a complete waste of time for a JW--ADCMS

I learned that. But I asked a circuit overseer(a JW "bishop") if I should stop personal Bible reading in view of the futility of finding a variation of understanding from the literature. Will Gorham, bless him, told me I should keep reading.

Incidentally, Bro. Gorham was raised Catholic...And a lot of us on here have noticed that he and his wife are gone, gone, gone now without a trace.

My theory? He knew what a Pope was and didn't like 8 popes any better and perhaps he made the same mistake he advised me to make--read and study the Bible on your own.

Indeed, I mis-spoke here, I meant to say infant baptism.

    impala63rag:

Congratulations on finding out that JWs do NOT lay all their cards on the table when studying with new people. I found this out as well. I suppose they figure that nobody in their right mind would even join the religion if they knew the real truth.

This is why I have an axe to grind: I feel the religion needs to be exposed and that the public deserve to know what the real story is with regard to this religion. Then at least people could make an informed decision.

Please give heed to what the poster Kaik above has said on the first page: he is giving a truthful picture of what it is all about. I also second what he said: run as far as you can.

I wish I had done that early on.

No problem Apog....we knew what you meant.

    .

Just think: if you were WT/GB you'd never have to admit you made a mistake.

Impala - I think you probably get it now if you have read and thought about everything that you ahve been told on this thread. The key thing is they deceived you - not in a small way but in relation to key core JW beliefs because that is what they call 'the meat' - the hard to chew on stuff which is reserved until you are totally hooked. They have love-bombed you to make you feel wanted and special but that will not last once you are baptized. Tehn it will be complaince and obedience and don'[t question or think for yourself. You have been given the M&M (mislead and manipulated) treatment and that is what you cna expect in the future if you keep studyiung and god-forbid get baptized. It is a good thing you have opened your eyes now but don't slip back into wilful blindness - escape while you have the chance.

I looks like they might be distancing themselves from me at the moment. I called and spoke with him last week. Durring that conversation I had asked about Dis-fellowshipping and a few other things. Well, he has never canceled a study before. Although, last week he said he was sick and would see me this week. Then he confirmed yesterday that they would be by today, but he called in sick again.
