Great quote, Punkie. This part caught my attention: "Minds must be cleansed and made over....By privately studying regularly.."
.
My question is: why does WT encourage private Bible study when it specifically says that study cannot result in a JW forming any personal opinions about what he reads? Answer: WT tells a JW what the answer is, and that JW has no choice but to agree.

"Avoid questioning the counsel [doctrine] that is provided by God's visible organization. Watchtower 1983 Jan 15 p.22
"However, we cannot hope to acquire a good relationship with Jehovah if we ignore those whom Jesus has appointed to care for his belongings. Without the assistance of "the faithful and discreet slave," we would neither understand the full import of what we read in God’s Word nor know how to apply it." Examining the Scriptures Daily 2012 Mar 4
"First, since "oneness" is to be observed, a mature Christian … does not advocate or insist on personal opinions or harbor private ideas when it comes to Bible understanding." Watchtower 2001 Aug 1 p.14
.
Here's what "private "studying" " really means in Watchtower Land:
"Often the very best and most beneficial studying you do is that done when you read a new Watchtower or Awake! or a new book" --W 6/1/1967
.
In reality, a JW does not need to read the Bible at all; the reason is, ultimately he is allowed to believe only what the WT tells him the Bible says. Personal Bible reading is a complete waste of time for a JW.
