Kate you really should read some of Bart's books. Misquoting Jesus and Jesus Interupted are great.

wasblind - But what I can say, is that can be applied to both believer and Athiest

At least an atheist can start on the premise that there is absolutely no evidence for god and that god is an unnecessary concept.

.......................but a beliver in turn would say the universe is evidence of an itelligent creator.

That is not a false premise to the believer, the false premise is that there is absolutly no evidence for God. Sarting with an opinion is a strting point and that's all there is to it many may believe one thinkg as a false premise and some may believe the opposite. What one person sees as fact another sees as fallacy. It's all a matter of opinion and faith.

Having a high IQ and belief in God is possible, it's just faith.

If science adjusts its view based on observable evidence, that means the previous understanding was based in a false premise. But that false premise was able to guide us to a better understanding.

People forget that what atheists promote is that is very unlikely that a God like the one described in the bible or any other sacred writings from antiquity can be real.

I just think you have to allow for the fact that not everyone is ready to cast aside all their assumptions at once. That can be a scary thing. How can you demand that someone suddenly consider their knowledge to be reset to zero, at the age of 30, 40, etc.?

A lot of ex-JWs eventually end up at agnosticism or atheism, after some years using another religion as a crutch the help them get away from the JW religion. It just takes time for people to step down from being in a high-control group and realizing that their life doesn't need all those rules and (made-up) answers. Trying to forcibly rush them through the process is more likely to hurt your cause than to help it.

......but a beliver in turn would say the universe is evidence of an itelligent creator.

That is simply jumping to a conclusion. Filling the gaps in our knowledge with mythology is NOT a sound premise.

the false premise is that there is absolutly no evidence for God.

There is NO evidence for god, so how that a false premise? Jumping to conclusion is not evidence.

It's all a matter of opinion and faith

Acknowledging we don't know is NOT faith or opinion, it is a statement of fact. Replacing "don't know" with "god" is an assumption without evidence.

As I've said before, The WTS has been proven to be false in what they teach

    .

    .

It's not my intention to make you a believer of any other religion

I only hope you can learn to respect a belief that's different from yours

    .

    .

it won't mean that you believe in what that difference is

Wasblind, do you show respect for beliefs such as the Earth is flat, that Unicorns and Fairies are real?

Why should I show respect for beliefs or constructs that can result in the termination of intellectual progress?

I don't hold "beliefs", when I don't know the answer I accept that I don't know. I certainly never resort to disseminating untestable ideas as if they were truth.
