This is why faith is not a virtue.

You remind me of my mom. A somewhat intelligent woman who at some point has surrendered her mind over to a specific belief.

When she looks for info it is always info that will support her feelings or beliefs. She is not capable of accepting anything as fact that is not inline with her personal idea of truth.

What is worse is she spreads this personal truth to others... living in a fantasy

    Ah, 4 more posts!

I do not understand how this post allotment works.

    What contradiction, JGnat?

I believe the Flood and the genealogy in Genesis are compatible.

    Have I missed something?

Well, if you accept the genealogies as written in the bible, you have the approximate date of the flood. It would have had to been in the time of Noah, about 3,000 BC.

    http://davelivingston.com/flooddate.htm

So according to your belief in the genealogies and a literal world-wide flood, you must also accept this approximate date. It could not have happened in some pre-historic indeterminately old date.

A Global flood has never occured for the following reasons:

    1) Righteous man Noah and his family had to carry more burden than the people who were simply drowned to death—taking minutes to die (whereas Noah had to build an ark to accomodate all the species, a mammoth task for an 8-member family)—Certainly an idea that will not originate with God, who cannot punish the righteous more than the wicked!

    2) God repented of his own act and promised: “He will never again bring a deluge...” (Genesis 9:11)—something not becoming of God

    3) Jesus declares: God has never destroyed any wicked people, at any time in the history! (Mathew 5:44-48)

There are no 'records' of a global flood, nor are there any of the garden of eden. Genesis was written around 1500 BCE, most of the events described therein happened way earlier, and nobody that could have seen these events was alive when Genesis was written.

if someone would write an unreferenced book about events from a 1000 years ago, that cannot be called 'records'. they can be called stories.

Geologists are quite well-placed to inform us when the land mass of the earth was one continent, the drifting apart of the continents happened way earlier than 4000 years ago. The last supercontinent was called Pangaea in their terminolgy, and the final stage of breaking up into the continents of today happened 55 million years ago. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pangaea (check for 'evidence of existence' and 'rifting and break-up')

the practical problems with the worldwide flood account like: 'how did the animals get back to their original ground' can therefore not be solved without throwing proven scientific evidence in the bin.

Obviously you are always free to choose to believe what you want, however it should not be called truthfull, reliable info from a divine source, if it is so easy to prove its not correct

Snowbird--FACT: you are not viewing things critically...you are looking from a biased point of view. You are starting with "the flood and bible is the truth" and then finding things that fit that ideal while ignoring facts.

I don't believe the breakup of earth into the continents occurred millions of years ago.

I believe this happened after the Flood, during the time of Peleg, the great-great-great-greatgrandson of Noah.

I'm well aware of what geologists and others say about this.

This is my final say on the matter.
