dear cantleave...
the believer is a witness to Him and what His rule will bring about. You will know them by their fruits.

You will know them by their fruits. - michelle
Then christianity is a failure then.
All I see from the most passionate believers is hatred, judgement, hubris and vitriol.
Thank god for the nice wishy-washy christians.

"The fact is that far more crime and child abuse has been committed by zealots in the name of God, Jesus and Mohammed than has ever been committed in the name of Satan. Many people don’t like that statement, but few can argue with it." -- Carl Sagan, from "A Demon Haunted World"

dear cofty...
Can you define wishy washy?

In this context "wishy-washy" would be a christian who doesn't take the bible seriously let alone literally and who picks the better things Jesus is supposed to have said and rejects the idiotic things.
They tend to be nice people.

Perry- what exactly is the 'practical' difference between you as a Fundamentalist waiting for Jesus to return and a JW waiting for Jesus to return.

"practical":
his beliefs, despite being untenable, are superior to a JWs beliefs, who's beliefs are also untenable.

This thread is primarily about Salvation and whether or not works are involved as the WT maintains, or if it is a FREE gift.
Salvation Cannot Be by Works and God's Grace
“NOT BY WORKS of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost” (Titus 3:5). This Bible verse makes it plain and simple that good works will not save anyone. Listen to the message of Ephesians 2:8-9, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: NOT OF WORKS, lest any man should boast.” How many Scriptures does God need to put in front of our face before we get the idea—salvation is not by merit. “Knowing that a man is NOT JUSTIFIED BY THE WORKS OF THE LAW, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and NOT BY THE WORKS OF THE LAW: for BY THE WORKS OF THE LAW SHALL NO FLESH BE JUSTIFIED” (Galatians 2:16).
God's intention is that he be the sole Savior. This is not something that he allows a person to participate in AT ALL. THIS IS THE OBJECT OF THE CHRISTIAN FAITH. And then, just to make sure no one misunderstands, He lets people know that their efforts to justify themselves by works only brings MORE DEBT, not deliverance. How did we miss this as JW's?
FOR WHAT SAITH THE SCRIPTURE? ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS COUNTED UNTO HIM FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS. NOW TO HIM THAT WORKETH IS THE REWARD NOT RECKONED OF GRACE, BUT OF DEBT. BUT TO HIM THAT WORKETH NOT, BUT BELIEVETH ON HIM THAT JUSTIFIETH THE UNGODLY, HIS FAITH IS COUNTED FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS. Romand 4: 3-5

and who created the "debt" in the first place? God himself. It's a vicious cycle.
(not that I believe in god or any biblical nonsense...just commenting on what's there).

[edit] Perry. Question: how is it that you present yourself as a biblical pundit, and you post a topic about a "scriptural"/theological point highlighted in a specific Bible passage, yet you don't even have enough interest in the scripture you discuss by looking it up?? ( topic title: "Probably You Might be Saved" - Somewhere in Zephaniah As I Recall")
.
FYI- it's Zephaniah 2:3. I'm an atheist...how come I know that and you don't?
