[Why not focus your statements to better enable conversation? Why don't you get specific and see where that brings you in your pursuit of knowledge?

For example, you could address a specific concern like "why do Ex-jws consider the watchtower a cult?"]

My interest lies with the connection between classical conditioning and the reason that people abandon their respective religious traditions. Could there be a type of conditioning that not only happens in groups like jw and mormons--but one that also occurs when a jw or mormon decides to leave his group. We need to refine the question a little more, agreed. But Eu knows what he is saying.

This statement is surprising. AlanF confused "thought" and "concluded" and then resorted to unwarranted ad hominem. Yet you commend him for his fine efforts.

There are serious people here on both sides. Unfortunately the ex-jws do outnumber the active jws. And the few active jws do have a hard time validating their teachings.

Many of the ex-jws here have been badly hurt by the jw org. Some are bitter or angry and still hurting. Some have a lot of healing accomplished and offer help and support to others. Some are actively involved in research and regularly share their findings here. And well some just come for the friendship and support.

All of us who left are seeking a better life and belief sysstem than the one we left. Many of us if not most have recognized the falseness in the WT org and are dealing with a loss of family, friends, community, faith and self-identity.

My guess about naming the site jw.com is that by doing so there is a greater chance of active jws coming here to discover some of the things we have learned. If an active jw did have serious doubts and questions about the org they most likely would be extremely hesitant about going to a site called ex-jw due to the prolific warnings to them not to attend such sites. Some may call it misleading but for those who have come and stayed and found freedom it was a good choice - (thank you Simon). For those who are offended they quickly leave.

    just my opinion

    EU,

You're starting to slip in to your old habit of referring to yourself in the third person. Careful, or you'll start throwing "phoneme" around and your cover will be blown.

If you think you're making some sort of grand point... great! Just don't try to pass yourself off in any way as an impartial observer.

    [U,

I refer to myself in the third person because I hate to say 'I' all the time. It is a normal writing convention. And do not worry about me using the word "phoneme" since I am not that interested in cognitive psychology or linguistics.

[If you think you're making some sort of grand point... great! Just don't try to pass yourself off in any way as an impartial observer.]

I have tried to remain neutral so far.

What are you talking about? My English is just fine. I am not an English teacher. But Eu can communicate with others in English.

Agreed. It also sounds like Hilda and Dunsscott to me, although the dunny may have lost a bit over the past year.
