Lots of us thought of the WT as the Borg when we were in, so I don't think we are hurting anyone's feelings calling it the Borg now. It is a fitting name, actually kinda cute. We could call the borganization what they really are, which is: a hate filled, vile, nasty, controlling, evil little cult. Which would you prefer?
I can see both sides of this. On the one hand, I can see Kate's point because some of the particularly hateful comments on here likely delayed my awakening, as it confirmed my indoctrinated sense that apostates are just bitter about some percieved injustice and will say anything to damage JWs. On the other hand, it only delayed my awakening by a couple months...and I think that it's likely that very few will be turned away permantently, because the issues that bring them here in the first place won't go away on their own.
Different strokes for different folks. I think it's likely that many (as is the case for me) are going to be swayed by logical, well thought-out arguments, while others are more likely to be swayed by emotion. Balance is important in all things, and I don't think it's any different here.

My 2 cents: How can it be wrong to ridicule ridiculous things?

While the Mighty Pythonites didn't mock JWs as such they certainly mocked predictions of the end of the world.
Ridicule is one way to make a point. The WTBTS uses ridicule to make their own infantile points.
As far as lurkers go referring to the Society and it's followers as the borg is an apt comparison kinder then calling them fools.
Lurkers are just that lurkers and as such by their actions are not members of this forum. My sense of responsibility is to those who have come here for some kind of healing and are trying to get free of the WT influence.
The Borg is a dangerous hate-filled cult which robs individuals of their personal consciences and choices. They destroy families. They ensure that their followers remain challenged in life financially and emotionally, waiting anxiously on a pay-off that will never, ever come. They deserve to be thrown onto the scrap heap of the 21st Century. They deserve much more ridicule than they receive on this site. The damage they have done to individuals and families while contributing absolutely nothing to society is shameful. We are kind if all we do is call them the Borg. They deserve much worse. If that hurts someone's feelings then they can get over it. Or not. It is truth. Deal with it.
referring back to kates comment----correct me if i'm wrong--but are there sections on this site that non-members cant access ? if there is--would it be feasible for an admin to move really vitriolic wt bashing threads over to there--to avoid stumbling ( lol ) potential newbees ?
