Is it wrong to mock and ridicule the Watchtower Society?

The Watchtower Society is simply a legal Corporation used by Jehovah's Witness Leadership for various purposes. Mock it all you want, it is not morally wrong so to do, but I think a bit pointless.

I think it is wrong to mock individual JW's, even if they are our own family perhaps, they are simply in a place that we were in not so long ago.

Now, when it comes to the beliefs and practices of the Jehovah's Witnesses as a group, or religion, if they deserve to be called one, then I think it is a Moral Duty to mock, deride and lampoon said beliefs and practices.

No silly beliefs deserve any kind of respect, and satirical and humerous attacks upon such things are one of the best methods of waking up the practitioners, nobody likes to be perceived as silly.

I think the newbies can take it; they wouldn't be grousing about here unless they were sick of the Borg or getting sick of it. As long as what is said is true, and curse words aren't used, why filter or censor? Strong words are necessary at times. They shouldn't be discouraged nor censored. If someone can show me that the Borg isn't full of hate, isn't controlling, doesn't destroy families, doesn't promise something which will never ever occur and doesn't set up its followers to be both financially, socially and psychologically behind the eight ball for the rest of their lives then me and those like me will always use sweet sweet words. Good luck with that.

I felt most of what I feel now when I was an elder and still believed it was the truth. Twenty years ago. I didn't come on this site - or any like it - until 2 decades post Borg had passed. I'm not freshly out and 'angry.' I've accomplished more than I can possibly relate, and my life is extremely happy and positive in all manners. So let's put things in their proper perspectve, shall we. There are a lot of posters like me who have been out a long, long time who feel the same. The Borg is full of a lot of very good people; we all know that. You call it vitriol; I call it truth. Potato potahto.

Do as you wish but if there are she-bears in your neighborhood I would tone it down.

We ridicule adults who believe in fairies, Santa Claus and the Easter Rabbit. We are just adding one more fairy story to the list.

Right Phizzy, the Corporation, The organization, the religion; it's practices...but not its victims.

Mocking is not right or wrong in itself. It is a matter of personal style.

If your objective is to assist people in changing their belief then ridicule and mocking is NOT a good idea. It's a type of bullying and the result is the band wagon effect. People will enjoy the mocking, ridicule and kicking of the opponent and have a good laugh with you but the resulting mob walks off and nothing has changed. It's like beating a pinata for a few sweets. It is a technique to bring people to your side even though no logical reasons have been given for such a shift in viewpoint.

Actually resorting to humor and ridicule is a serious fallacy when it comes to argumentation. Humor and ridicule is often used in an effort to avoid serious discussion because a person doesn't want to invest the time it takes to respond appropriately to an opponents position.

There is room for humor in arguing but it should only be used to relieve tension so you can move on to the more important issues that require a serious response.

The Watchtower Society has no problem mocking and ridiculing the beliefs and practices of others. They may go light on it in their litteratrash for public consumption, but when you read their litteratrash for believers, their old publications, and listen to their talks and conversations, mock and ridicule is their standard.

Consequently, if they can dish it out, they deserve to get mock and ridicule served right back to them!

Thanks Billy. If they couldn't help it we shouldn't mock or ridicule. They can. If we weren't truthful we shouldn't mock or ridicule. We are. If we aren't using pejorative, abusive or vulgar language, and that is in the eye of the beholder at times, then rock on.
