I have gone through several epiphanies in my lifetime. Each one was marked by deep reflection and uncertainty. Even so, it is a great thing to pause for deep reflection. I would advise you to take your time. Ask yourself what is really true and worthwhile?

It would be wrong of me to give you pat answers and short cut this time of reflection. As painful and as uncertain as it is, it is a rare treasure.

It is how you become wise and immune to charlatans.

Peace, love and understanding ..... a humanistic approach.

Jesus was a humanist, believe in him then.

I am still going through the same dilema after some 2 years now.

My problem after 30 active years and literally building upon hundreds of friendships, makes this transition really hard. Reading all the experiences on this site, especially those that have served at Bethel and as Elders has helped alot. There is still now that empty void of what now! Is there a God and Jesus that really care? If so, why the continued suffering in the world? I need no more convincing that the world is in bad shape.

    Where is our promised relief???

    Hello purrpurr,

I can sympathize with the journey you are on now. My husband was a born-in who, like you, had known no other belief system his whole life of 55 years when we left. I had converted in my teens. When we woke up I went back to what I had believed before for the most part. We were not in a rush to lock into another set of beliefs. We talked a lot, read a lot, explored the internet. We went to the little country church I had attended as a child and another Christian church with some friends. Neither one of us felt comfortable there but desparately wanted a sense of community. We looked up a Unitarian Universalist congregation and began going there. We immediately felt at home because there is no dogma or doctrine, just the acceptance of everyone for who they are. People of many different beliefs make up our small congregation and we find it a wonderful way to explore without the pressure of conversion.

I can tell you now it is a relief to not HAVE to believe what is spoon fed from a hierarchy. But it can be a little scary too. As Witnesses we had answers for everything. Now it is OK to say, "I don't know." Everyone here is giving you permission to explore; now give yourself permission.

We just had the same conversation.

I guess that means that at this point, I have the same question but sadly no answer for you.

"Just what do I believe in now?" - purrpurr
That is up to you, I choose to critically examine and evaluate all available information and make decisions, including those involving my "beliefs", based on thought, facts and reason.

"Is there a god?" - purrpurr
There is no evidence to back up the existence of a god, any god.

"I feel like I need god in my life," - purrpurr
    Why?
We should hold no personal stake (aka heaven, earth, hell, nirvana, etc.), in any of the beliefs we hold, but simply in the rational assurance that whatever beliefs we do hold are indeed correspond with reality.

You can create one, the one you create it's going to be as proficient as any.

"I just don't know where to find him anymore???" - purrpurr
You are not going to find "him/her/it", they are imaginary. Feel free to do your own version of a god.

    Help??
Try reading some books, do some research.

    Take care,

    Ismael
