Sorry to get all serious on you guy's.
What do you think of this?
At a recent one day assembly I attended, the speaker reasoned as to what a spiritual person is. Is such a person someone who was brought up in the truth, been in the truth 20/30 years? ANSWER - NO a spiritual person is a person that THINKS GODS THOUGHTS. Then he proceeded to read the following scripture and apply it to those that no longer attend.
Philippians 3:18,19)****** For there are many, I used to mention them often but now I mention them also with weeping, who are walking as the enemies of the torture stake of the Christ, and their finish is destruction, and their god is their belly, and their glory consists in their shame, and they have their minds upon things on the earth******
His words were that they have become ENEMIES of truth. Sorry guys, BUT it's quite the CONTRARY!! I'm sorry for all the shouting in this post but, how can they be so damning of ones that are absent. I went to the assembly, half hoping that something would be said to pursued me to carry on, no, it was no way like that. It helped me make up my mind, that I will NOT expose myself or family to this kind of judgementalism…..it's just plain wrong.
I feel ANGRY and very SADDENED that these, long term loyal ones, were JUDGED in their absence. How dare he judge people. There are many scriptures to quote, to EMPHASIS that WE / WTBTS should NOT judge people in this way so sweepingly, tarring EVERYONE with the SAME brush.
I don't know of, and can't imagine anyone, that has been in the org. (or not for that matter) being suddenly concerned with LIES…..No way.
Such discourses, only serve to make the 'weak' ones feel worse. Also, it subtly divides, the strong and the weak. It does not have room for the strong helping the weak. Where is the ENCOURAGEMENT? Where is the LOVE??
*** Rbi8 Acts 20:35 ***
YOU must assist those who are weak, and must bear in mind the words of the Lord Jesus, when he himself said, 'There is more happiness in giving than there is in receiving.'"
*** w97 5/15 26 Beware of Imputing Wrong Motives ***
A Lesson From the Past
Imputing wrong motives to others without just cause is tantamount to judging them. It is as though we are jumping to the conclusion that their words or deeds are merely a subterfuge hiding something devious and malicious. Often the real problem lies in a mistaken view of matters, as can be seen from the Bible account found in Joshua chapter 22.
*** w97 12/1 30 Is All Complaining Bad? ***
Further, Jesus counseled his followers, not to complain about "the straw" of faults observed in our fellow humans, but to be well aware of the larger "rafter" of shortcomings that we ourselves have. (Matthew 7:1-5) In a similar vein, Paul condemned judging (a form of complaining) another as "inexcusable . . . inasmuch as you that judge practice the same things." These cautions against complaining should move us to avoid being needlessly critical and developing a complaining spirit.-Romans 2:1.
My conclusion is that many, are disheartened/saddened that we do not seem to be any nearer to paradise than we'd all hoped for. I think the discouragement is an epidemic....even, amongst those whom we are told to imitate, in their faith and works.
Well that's my two penny worth!! Feel better after that rant! Thanks folks.
