No, mate, I definitely do not believe that - and furthermore, nowhere did I say that, either!

However, Western civilisation did not start out the way it is now, but rather developed over time into what it has become. This is what I meant by the term "not inherently superior." From what I can see of it, the only thing that is "inherent" is that underlying streak of cruelty that is present in the human species, and never very far away in all of us.

(Hopefully, I have made myself clear this time!)

Ok thank you, yes you have made yourself clear.

'the only thing that is "inherent" is that underlying streak of cruelty that is present in the human species, and never very far away in all of us' - I agree, and Western culture seems to be the only culture that recognises and accounts for this.

'Western civilisation did not start out the way it is now, but rather developed over time' - I agree with this too, but surely with regard to Islamic reformation it makes sense to speed up this process. It would be absurd to take the view that because Islam is centuries younger than Xtianity, and therefore at a younger developmental stage, just let Islam be reformed at its own pace. How many centuries would that take? In the meantime the beheadings, crucifixtions, stonings, floggings and amputations continue!

The point I wanted to make in the first place was that had the 13th Century Mongol armies also devastated Western Europe, I don't believe our civilisation would have ever reached the pinnacle that it now has got to - not in our time, anyway. Also, a certain clear, volatile liquid called "ethanol" played a significant role in diverting the Mongol hordes away from Western Europe and thus sparing Western Civilisation from that fate.

As for the acceleration of the reformation process in Islam, have you any ideas how this may be accomplished? If so, I am all ears!

    Bill.

To be honest, I'm not overly interested in 13th century Mongol armies - we are where we are, and in its current form Islam is a big problem.

Re encouraging/accelerating Islamic reform, I have vague ideas that I've gleaned from British neo-conservatives such as Melanie Phillips and Douglas Murray.

Western society allows freedom of religion. In return, religious leaders need to acknowledge their religion's place in Western society.

Mainstream xtian leaders seem to do this. However, with imams and the GB the picture seems to be different.

Western goverments/authorities should monitor religions much more closely, in particular Islam and WTS.

    Re Simons post:-

In Enland we have a poppy day to honour the fallen soilders of WW1 and WW2 i thought.

But apparently it's for all fallen soilders since WW1.

Anyway an Irish footballer in good conceience couldn't wear the poppy, his English club had embroded on the shirt. ( the English and Irish have been at war)

Personally i thought what a f.u.k.er. But then as a witness i realised i refused the poppy. ( To my personal shame now)

But isn't that why we honour the dead soilders.that they gave us the freedom to choose.

    LoveUniHateExams,

That you have only "vague ideas" about how the reformation process of Islam could be accelerated comes as no surprise to me!

    IN FLANDERS FIELDS

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch, be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields

    sammielee24,

Thanks for posting that. While not directly related to the subject of this thread, it is still an appropriate thing to post, anyway:

    - certainly for those of us on this side of the International Dateline, where local time is now eleven minutes past eleven o'clock on the morning of Tuesday, 11th November.

(And where we have just finished watching the televised Remembrance Day observations from the Australian War Memorial in Canberra)

Just been reading about the self-styled caliph of ISIS, Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi.

He might be dead. The US hit a convoy of armoured vehicles yesterday. It was believed to be carrying a bunch of ISIS leaders.

Awesome......keep pouring it on them Obama!

@Bungi Bill - of course you shouldn't be surprised. Like everyone else on this forum, I'm obviously not an expert.

Do you agree that it's better to have vague ideas as opposed to denying there's a problem at all?

    Tell me your ideas.
