    aha...lyrics...

    Lyrics of my adolesence:

Like a song I have to sing
    I sing it for you
Like the words I have to bring
    I bring it for you

And in leather, lace, and chains
    We stake our claim
    Revolution once again
No I won't, I won't wear it on my sleeve
I can see through this expression
And you know I don't believe
    Too wrong to be told
    Exactly who are you
    Tonight, Tomorrow's too late

And we love to wear a badge, a uniform
And we love to fly a flag
But I won't let others live in hell
As we divide against each other
    And we fight amongst ourselves
Too set in out ways to try to rearrange
Too right to be wrong, in this rebel song

    Let the bells ring out
    Let the bells ring out

    Is there nothing left?
    Is there, is there nothing?
    Is there nothing left?
    Is honesty what you want?

A generation without name, ripped and torn
Nothing to lose, nothing to gain
    Nothing at all
And if you can't help yourself
Well, take a look around you
    When others need your time
You say it's time to go it's your time
Angry words won't stop the fight
Two wrongs won't make it right
A new heart is what I need
    Oh God, make it bleed
    Is there nothing left?

    "Like A Song", WAR, U2

    Lyrics of eternal universality:

Is it getting better, or do you feel the same?
Will it make it easier on you now
    You got someone to blame

    You say
    One love
    One life
When it's one need in the night
    One love
    We get to share it
Leaves you baby if you don't care for it

    Did I disappoint you?
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth?
You act like you never had love
And you want me to go without

    Well it's...
    Too late
    Tonight
To drag the past out into the light
We're one, but we're not the same
We get to carry each other
    Carry each other
    One

Have you come here for forgiveness?
Have you come tor raise the dead?
Have you come here to play Jesus
To the lepers in your head?

    Did I ask too much?
    More than a lot
You gave me nothing, now it's all I got
We're one, but we're not the same
    Well we hurt each other
    Then we do it again

    You say
    Love is a temple
    Love a higher law
    Love is a temple
    Love the higher law
You ask me to enter but then you make me crawl
And I can't be holding on to what you got
When all you got is hurt

    One love
    One blood
    One life
You got to do what you should
    One life
    With each other
    Sisters
    Brothers
    One life
    But we're not the same
We get to carry each other
    Carry each other

    One

    "One", Achtung Baby, U2

Lyrics pleading for an end to the destructive force that is religious fundamentalism:

so you never knew love until you crossed the line of grace
and you never felt wanted till you had someone slap your face
so you never felt alive until you almost wasted away

    you had to win
    you couldn't just pass
    the smartest ass
at the top of the class
    your flying colours
    your family tree
and all your lessons in history

please... please... please get up off your knees...
please... please... leave me out of this
    please

so you never knew how low you'd stoop to make that call
and you never knew what was on the ground till they made you crawl
so you never knew that the heaven you keep you stole

    your catholic blues
    your convent shoes
    your stick on tattoos
    now they're making the news
    your holy war
    your northern star
    your sermon on the mount
from the boot of your car

please...please... please get up off your knees
please...please... leave me out of this please

so love is hard and love is tough
but love is not what you're thinking of

september... streets capsizing... spilling over down the drain
...shards of glass splinters like rain but you could only feel your own pain...

october... talking getting nowhere... November... December...
    remember...
    are we just starting again...?

so love is big bigger than us
but love is not what you're thinking of
it's what lovers deal it's what lovers steal
you know i've found it hard to recieve
'cause you my love I could never believe

    "Please", Pop, U2

Just three of my favorite songs lyrically speaking...

    Lovsinner -

It's great you love Janes Addiction AND Frank Sinatra !!

I have no problems saying my faves are Radiohead, Led Zep, U2 AND Abba .

The Cult - they were great - I had many a drunken night at college dancing to She Sells Sanctuary. Unfortunately british bands are now mainly crap. I read in the paper this week that in 1985 british music accounted for 40% of record sales in the US. In 2001 this had become 0.2%.

What's happened to the british music industry??

We all list Led Zep, Black Sabbath, The Beatles, Stones, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Pink Floyd etc etc as some of our favourites. We Brits now have to suffer Westlife and Steps (boy/girl bands).

Sorry - beginning to rant... beginning to get drunk...

  • Bendrr
    Bendrr

Excellent choice, GSX1138! The Dead Milkmen, I love that band.

My personal entries to the list:

    Lynyrd Skynyrd

    Molly Hatchet

    Charlie Daniels

Credence Clearwater Revival - in this case, skip the compilations and collect the actual albums. Matter of fact, do a little searching and you'll find two other albums they made in their pre-CCR days under the names Tommy Fogerty and the Blue Velvets and The Golliwogs. Well worth listening to.

Joan Jett 'The Hit List'. She does a cover of Nazareth's 'Love Hurts' that's awesome. For that matter, any cover Joan Jett does rocks!

AC/DC with Bon Scott. Some of their stuff after Bon died was ok, but the Bon era of AC/DC was the best.

Judas Priest. 'Screaming for Vengeance', 'Defenders of the Faith', and 'Turbo'.

Manowar 'Fighting the World', 'Kings of Metal', and 'Louder than Hell'.

All the 80's rockers. Yes, MikeMusto, including Poison. On 'Crack a Smile' they did a really rockin' cover of 'Cover of the Rolling Stone'.

    KISS.

Shannon Curfman. For those of you who haven't heard her, go to www.shannoncurfman.com She is only like 15 or so, but has this incredible voice. To hell with Britney Spears, this girl has some real talent!

    Ray Stevens

Weird Al. There's this parody of 'The Devil Went Down to Georgia' that's credited to him that's just hilarious.

David Allan Coe The commercial stuff is fine, but again do some searching and you'll find his 'Underground Album' and 'Nothing Sacred'. Both never officially released, but bootlegs abound.

    Any Dr. Demento compilation.

'Heavy Metal - The Movie' Soundtrack

    'Twin Peaks' Soundtrack

    Mike.

Just thought of another one that every rock record collection should include:

Jesus Christ Superstar - the original recording done before the show had ever been on the stage. Great album all around!
