    Hmm,

I like loads of styles of music so here's a list.

Rock: System of a Down - Toxicity, Deftones - White Pony, Around the Fur, Everclear - So Much for the Afterglow, Nirvana - Nevermind. and loads more.

Dance: Carl Cox - Global (particularly the non-US disc 2 ;)), Prodigy - Fat of the Land, INCredible Sound of Gilles Peterson, Matthew Herbert - Bodily Functions. Clubbers Guide to Ibiza (most years).

Hip Hop: Q-Tip - Kammal the Abstract, Common - Like Water for Chocolate.

    There's a few for you.

    Ignored One, (Iggy).

Every songwriter should own 'Forever Changes', by Love. It is very hard to find a song written the past 35 years that does not have a little of Arthur Lee inside it. His nihilistic, haunting lyrics have seldom been bettered.

As to UK music. One of the most overlooked bands imho was a band made up of half of 'Caravan' and half of the "SoftMachine', two progressive rock/jazz bands that emerged from the Canterbury rock scene in the late 60's. They went by the name 'Hatfield And The North', and perfect blend of eccentric lyrics and rolling rhythms. Great stuff dating believe it or not to 1974 but still able to lead the pack today.

Here is a link to further info. Good mates of mine and 'bloody long-haired hooligans' according to my long since deceased father...lol

    Jesus Christ Superstar............

Mannnnnnnnnn, we used to listen to that album ALL the time! Of course, not when other jw's were around. About the same time as Hair.

Used to like Weather Report also.....but had to be in the mood to pay attention.

A few months ago, I decided to search for whatever music I could find that was used on the TV Show, Miami Vice. Of course, much of it was written and performed by Jan Hammer, but even more was run of the mill rock from many years and some relatively unheard of bands. I ended up with 8 CDs worth of very enjoyable rock music from many different groups. And, I didn't even download all that I could find.

Also, for you other "aging" rockers, like me, don't forget Chicago, Credence, BS&T, Fleetwood Mac, Buffalo Springfield and such.

Additionally, to the Watchtower, I dedicate Bob Dylans Positively 4th Street:

    You got a lotta nerve
To say you are my friend
    When I was down
    You just stood there grinning

    You got a lotta nerve
To say you got a helping hand to lend
You just want to be on
    The side that's winning

You say I let you down
You know it's not like that
    If you're so hurt
Why then don't you show it

You say you lost your faith
But that's not where it's at
You had no faith to lose
    And you know it

    I know the reason
That you talk behind my back
I used to be among the crowd
    You're in with

Do you take me for such a fool
    To think I'd make contact
With the one who tries to hide
What he don't know to begin with

You see me on the street
    You always act surprised
You say, "How are you?" "Good luck"
    But you don't mean it

When you know as well as me
    You'd rather see me paralyzed
Why don't you just come out once
    And scream it

No, I do not feel that good
When I see the heartbreaks you embrace
If I was a master thief
    Perhaps I'd rob them

And now I know you're dissatisfied
With your position and your place
    Don't you understand
    It's not my problem

I wish that for just one time
You could stand inside my shoes
And just for that one moment
    I could be you

Yes, I wish that for just one time
You could stand inside my shoes
You'd know what a drag it is
    To see you

The Doors - ANGELS AND SAILORS

    From the album "American Prayer"

    Angels and sailors
    rich girls
    backyard fences
    tents

    Dreams watching each other narrowly
    soft luxuriant cars
    Girls in garages, stripped
out to get liquor and clothes
half gallons of wine and six-packs of beer
    Jumped, humped, born to suffer
made to undress in the wilderness.

I will never treat you mean

Never start no kind of scene

I'll tell you every place and person that I've been.

Always a playground instructor, never a killer

Always a bridesmaid on the verge of fame or over

He manouvered two girls into his hotel room

One a friend, the other, the young one, a newer stranger

    Vaguely Mexican or Puerto Rican

Poor boys thighs and buttock scarred by a father's belt

    She's trying to rie

Story of her boyfriend, of teenage stoned death games

Handsome lad, dead in a car

    Confusion

    No connections

    Come 'ere

    I love you

    Peace on earth

    Will you die for me?

    Eat me

    This way

    The end

    I'll always be true

Never go out, sneaking out on you, babe

If you'll only show me Far Arden again.

I'm surprised you could get it up

He whips her lightly, sardonically, with belt

Haven't I been through enough? she asks

    Now dressed and leaving

The Spanish girl begins to bleed

    She says her period

    It's Catholic heaven

I have an ancient Indian crucifix around my neck

My chest is hard and brown

Lying on stained, wretched sheets with a bleeding virgin

    We could plan a murder

    Or start a religion.

Jesus, finally somebody mentioned Jethro Tull.

"Thick as a Brick" and "A Passion Play" are the two best prog rock albums ever.
