LOL I almost lost my lunch when I read that! That's all that was going for awhile where I live! You know what? I decided to be a rebel and not go. I have STILL never gone squaredancing. *puts pinky to mouth like Dr. Evil*1. Square dancing.
Sorry Mister Biggs.
Doesn't Ned Flanders have some real fun ideas?

Actually, Englishman, I was referring to wedding anniversary celebrations, not the actual wedding receptions themselves. Maybe is a regional/cultural thing, however, because the actual JW wedding reception/parties I've attending were duds. No liquor (don't want anyone losing control). Usually a potluck. Maybe kingom songs, or very restrained music. Some dancing, but under very watchful eyes. One suggestive move and you'd be on the list to watch...
In our area, weddings were more like modified/special occasion meetings...no fun at all.

Sorry, my last post should have been addressed to Mr. Biggs, not Englishman.

Sorry eman you are too late the society has already covered just what wholesome activities you can have.
Here are a few for your enlightenment.

A hobby can even help you to advance spiritually. If you like to make models, for example, might not building a miniature ark deepen your appreciation of the strength of Noahs faith? (See box.) Constructing a model tabernacle or temple may likewise improve your knowledge of the way Gods servants worshiped long ago. In Bible times the shepherd boy David played the harp in his spare time. Later he composed beautiful songs to Jehovahs praise. Could you learn to play a musical instrument yourself? If so, why not use your talent to praise God by learning some of the melodies in the songbook Sing Praises to Jehovah? As you play the music, ponder over the sentiments the lyrics convey. Are you a collector? Then gather items that relate to the Bible. Or try filling a scrapbook with pictures of Bible lands.

Sorry about that. Yes, a BIG difference between Anniversary parties and Wedding receptions.
Roller skating was really popular here in Philly. Then, we were counseled for going every week.
Did anyone else play Noah's Ark? That was a (dumb) game where everyone would sit around the room, one player would be appointed "Noah," who had to judge who was worthy to come onto the ark. Each player, in turn, had to state an object that he/she would be bringing with them onto the ark. The key was that you had to bring something that started with the same letter as your first name, i.e. Tom could bring Tomatoes or Turnips and be allowed onto the ark, but not Carrots. Catherine could bring Carrots. After each person said what they were bringing, "Noah" would allow them onto the ark or not, depending whether they had caught on to the trick. Obviously, it wasn't any fun to play unless you had some people who didn't know what was going on, because the only "fun" inherent in the game was watching the people who didn't "get it" scratching their heads trying to figure out why they weren't being allowed on the ark. Actually, even then, it wasn't that much fun...
