Something you have to give the Mormons credit for is their way of recruiting. They are at 22 million, and whatever they are doing, works!! I remember well, back in the 60's, when there were about the same number of Mormons as there were JW's.

Obviously they are the ones who "really have holy spirit". Okay, just kidding.

    Mulan,

    1) They have tons of Kids

    2) They are 'encouraged' to go on missions for 2 years (when they get back the Mormon chicks dig them!).

    Lots of opportunity for conversion.

I still havnt seen any female missionaries. If they actually have them, I would be surprised, being that the whole Religion in completely Male Dominant.

They definitely have female missionaries. They have called at my door. I burst into giggles, when I saw the badge that said "Elderette Jones" or whatever her name was. (2 gals) I was a JW at the time, and we used that term for the elder's wives, like me.

As to their numbers, they have 22 million, and the JW's have 6 million. They use television, and free videos and other great ideas to attract people. Something is working.

    Welcome John!

Being raised a J.W. I'm not really familiar with many of the morman's beliefs, but I think one of them was the thing about coffee. I'm glad we didn't have that rule!!! =;o) I'd be lost without my coffee in the morning!

Just curious though, did the mormons have the same policy as the J.W.'s on shunning?

    Again Welcome!

I was just jealous that they got name badges...REAL ONES...not the crappy ones we made ourselves out of safety pins and clear contact paper. (that's what they were right?

And I always wondered how a 15 year old kid was considered an Elder...

    Double Edge says:

Mormans believe that Jesus visited the "new world" after his resurrection, or so their Book of Morman claims, to which numerous posters have said there is no 'shred' of any evidence as to it being real. I don't know if it's real or not, but I just spent the last hour on the internet researching "Aztecs belief in Christ"...several references came up, including one from the El Paso City College:

Why do you feel you must defend LDS beliefs to us or present evidence that possibly their sacred writings are true? Is this your policy with every religion, even the Moonies or Children of God (some sort of "can't we all get along" mentality)? Is this your way of implying we aren't "open-minded" enough about Mormon tenements. Most of us have examined Mormonism enough to know that for us it doesn't make sense. Please don't insult our intelligence.

I have read very little here that disparages Mormons as human beings. We can certainly make the distinction between "people" and "religion". You can cut the White Knight routine.

    HappyHeathen:

My interest in this board started because I was trying to figure out my JW friend. My interest in "morman comments' on this board is because I have several mormans friends and what I sometimes read here about them and what my experinces are with them are sometimes two different things...nothing good comes from perpetuating lies or half-truths about anyone, whether you agree with them or not.

Mormans can defend their own beliefs, as you can see by the morman poster SUSAN earlier on this thread. First of all, in answer to your question above, I've never raised the Morman issue....someone else always seems to do that here on the EX-JW site, which I find in itself odd. There are many threads on various issues where statements are made that are false, or half-truths; whether they be about politics, the validity of biblical prophecy or whatever....some I will give my 2 cents worth, most I don't (especially the ones on politics...they just make me angry and go nowhere). If someone says something that I know is totally wrong, then I will chime in.

I have read very little here that disparages Mormons as human beings.

But if something is false, it is disparaging to their character...the way it is stated makes them look a little evil if not foolish. A few months ago, someone on this board said Mormans pay 30% tithing, their minister checks their tax returns and another person on the same thread said she heard someone from the morman church came to their morman neigbors (an old lady) door asking for $90,000 in back tithing. Now, I KNEW all of those things were false...and they shouldn't have continue to be perpetuated.

Secondly, I'm a history buff. A lot of the statements made are historical and related to Morman belief. Just from the historical perspective, misrepresentations need to be corrected. The other day, someone was commenting on Hitler feeling threatened by Poland, so he started WWII. I won't even go there, it was such an assine statement to anyone who knows history. It took everything I had not to respond....it just wasn't worth the time or energy.

Lastly, am I right in assuming your name denotes no belief in God whatsoever? If so, fine, different strokes for different folks, but if so why in the hell would you care whether I defend 'mormans' or 'christians beliefs' or the 'validity of the bible' in general? I'm not sure where your little "white knight" dig is coming from, in fact, it really doesn't make sense. To come out with a personal attack when we have had no communication is childish. Be honest, what's bothering you Heathen, why aren't you sooooo Happy?
