BTW, thanks WEDS for amending the title to your thread! making it a positive! G.R.I.T.S. Girl Raised In The South
u r very welcome. I had just gottne bill info e-mail and i believe he said the board would be down starting sunday , so that is what inspired the title of thread. U are quite right-this is mujch more positive. Glad we are have a discussion board/
Hi WEDS: Yeah, I know. Things happen FAST don't they? (Must have something to do with Friday the 13th! LOL! - joking of course). I don't think BB nor Rev knew, when BB sent around the email, that it would evolve this way, but glad it worked out!
Hey Rev, enjoy the movie and the kids!
Later Gators!
I did find the 'no links to exJW sites' rul understandable ...
... but then Bill linked to exJW sites and sent them out in the mailing list.
I think the silentlambs list should be purely for silentlambs and not watered down with non-related stuff about JWs in general (as silentlambs then becomes an apostate site itself) or personal stuff.
My personal belief is that abuse survivors do not necessarily want to talk about abuse all the time but want to know that people understand and can talk about it if they want.
Simon, this is exactly what I told Bill on the phone today.
I think it's a mistake to take the link to the forums down. Your supposed to add content, not take it away. The guestbook is all fine and good, but quite frankly I don't want to talk about abuse all the time. And I know many other abuse survivors, that don't want to talk about it all the time either.

I agree with you 100% TH. I have been upset about this since yesterday. When Bill made the announcement I was freaking out. I had been informed exactly 14 minutes prior to the announcement. I have to be honest here. I KNEW Bill would do this. I knew that the forums would be about the Abuse Survivors and NOT ALL about Bill. No offense, but people are somewhat correct in their opinions that Bill HAS to be in the limelight or he's not happy. I'm not bashing the guy's efforts, or trying to belittle what he's done. I'm proud of him for that. But being an abuse survivor myself, I was looking out for 'the rest of us' when I built the site the way I did. I put the boards on LambsRoar.com just in case this happened, and thank God I did. I think Bill is making a huge mistake. As a friend I tried to reason with Bill when he informed me, but he wouldn't listen. People do have to vent, and that's what he doesn't realize. He 'thinks' that if an abused person comes to silentlambs and sees 'venting', they'll keep going. He doesn't understand us very well does he? He doesn't understand that we've been forced to be 'silent' for most of our lives, and we don't want to be silenced anymore. Not by the Watchtower, and not by silentlambs. So, maybe LambsRoar will not become a big site, but who cares? That wasn't the purpose when it was at silentlambs, and it isn't the purpose now. But I swear to all that is Good and Holy, that it will remain for those that need it, when they need it, and the silentlambs will finally, after all this time, have a place to Roar!
I wish Bill all the best in his endeavors, and I ask that in the future he take the Abuse Survivors into consideration when making decisions for them.
Rev,
well probably this was just too much for bill to try and do and someone else should have been running the boards all along. I agree, sometimes we need to vent , which is something the WTS, even if they acknowledged we had been abused, refused to let us do.
I hope the board goes on, but if it does not, well there is the child abuse section her on this board;and i guess it can be used. But i personally hope the lambs boared will continue.
Bill does need to concentrate on these court cases, our only hope of makeing any headway against the WTS , is if we can win a few. if they have to pay money-they will think twice about some of there rules and we might get some "new light" on the 2 witness rule.We definitley need major TV exposure. I noticed those Williams girls got on oprah, looking all great for jws.

Waiting,
I agree. Bill does have alot on his plate, and I didn't meant o make it appear like a statement 'against' him. My only point was that he had volunteers from everywhere, but no-one was given anything to do. Not saying that's his fault either, as his schedule probably didn't allow all this.
We definitley need major TV exposure.
I agree that the TV exposure is needed, and Bill is doing a great job in that department. I think the general public needs to be informaed on a local level as well though. I was talking with my wife, and she's a former Catholic. Her opinion is that these TV broadcasts go in one ear and out the other. She asked what I thought about the Catholic abuse cases, and what I've done for that. Nothing, my son will never be an altar boy. I think it sucks, but I'm not marching against them. So it's the same with most people in the general public. Oh, JW abuse....oh well, I'm not a JW. What they fail to realize is that this differs from the Catholics. These people are knocking on OUR doors.....you have to pound this into their heads. I own an advertsing agency, and the key rule in advertising is it takes, on average, 6-8 REPEATED times of hearing an ad before someone makes a move on it, even if they were interested in the first place! That's why running a newspaper ad once a month in the Sunday paper does absolutely nothing. It's also why Mcdonald's pays billions of dollars to have 1/3 of the commercial spots you see on TV. You never know when this is going to click in their heads. It might when they see dateline, or it might not. You had a shot and hope you get a ton of people interested, but it's all a gamble.
So, as much as I'm in agreement on the TV exposure, short of having regular repeated commercials, I really don't see it doing alot towards the ultimate goal (As far as public knowledge is concerned). The general public needs to be aware, and taught on a regular basis, and there's a million and one ways to accomplish that, but who's going to do it?
Rev,
I never took it as a dig against bill, i agree , it was just too much anyway.
yes i think the public are getting used ot hearing about sex abuse due to the catholic church scandal. My therapist said it is almost like the "wave" of MPD dx back in the late 80's and early 90's. I know for me, i have to put a face with the crime, or well u hear so much horrible stuff on tv-this is just another horrible thing.
BTW Rev, I'm working on a PSA for TV, and because silentlambs is a 501 3c, they can be aired on TV for free. I'll also work up a Radio spot.
