UN resolution 1442 expressly forbids Turkey from infecting European holiday-makers with kebab based dysentery, yet for years they have been doing so with little regard for international law. It is high time that somebody jammed a Tomahawk up their B52’s and taught them a lesson.
As for me, I don’t know much about politics, but I know what I like….

Turkey better keep its self-serving ass out of Iraq...this war is supposed to be about liberating an oppressed people, not another European re-partitioning ala WW1 and WW2.
The only way the US can demonstrate its non-unilateral intent in this war is by preventing such opportunistic exploitation...including exploitation by the US.

You say this like it's some great failing of the American people. Could you give me a brief rundown on both why and how "most Americans" should have this information?
It's not important whether the average American knows the history between the Turks and the Kurds. Any more than we should know how to target a bomb. The fact is: Bush and the other hawks of his war-mongering administration should have known of this possible consequence and taken it into account. But then... perhaps they did.... considering how Bush I called upon the Kurds to revolt against Sadaam during Gulf War I with promises of support, only to leave them to suffer Sadaam's Revenge -- with bio weapons that had been supplied by the U.S.
Seems that Bush II doesn't care much for the Kurds either. Oh well. My plans for a bar-be-cue this afternoon are still on, so why should I care?

It occurred to me that the Turks outsmarted Bush and the shock and awe crowd, not that *that* is a major accomplishment.
While they finally allowed Allied Forces to at least fly over, Turkey has steadfastly refused to allow the U.S. to base troops on Turkish soil. Their forward reasoning for this seems clear: had troops been based there, said "freedom loving" troops might very well have inhibited any Turkish take-over of Northern Iraq -- which seems to have been Turkey's plan.
As it is, with no American troops on the ground the Turks have an unopposed opening to do whatever they want. At least for now.
