Is America going to allow another Turkish atrocity? ... escalation?

    'Is America going to ALLOW?'

    Who put America in charge?

    Oh, I forgot, America did.

'Turkey better keep it's self -serving ass out of Iraq.'..replace 'Turkey' with 'America 'and that statement is spot on.

Turkey has stated it's intentions to block a rush of refugees and has put troops in place to do that. Kurdish leaders have stated they have a 'shoot to kill' policy if the Turks enter their territory.

Of course Turkey has it's own agenda and will use the situation to serve a purpose but how is that different from what is already happening?

Keep your eyes on the real abusers of human rights - the ones that pretend they are the good guys while scheming to overpower and control the whole world. Bush is just a puppet dancing to their tune but if we're not careful we ALL will be pretty soon.

    Oh boy, here we go.

If that's supposed to reflect my thinking, Teejay, then you've substituted "care" for "know", thereby changing what I said into something I neither said nor meant.

All I mean, COMF, is that it's not up to measly us to know anything because even if we did, what could we do about it? Might as well proceed with my plans since, whether I know or not, the war proceeds unabated. I haven't exactly gotten a call from Washington with someone asking my opinion.

Who SHOULD know (and who, perhaps, DO know) are the supposed "knowledgeable and informed" leaders who've had months to consider all the possible scenarios to The Bush Family vs. Sadaam, Part II. Earlier you seemed to take peculiar umbrage with the comment that "most Americans have absolutely no idea how hellish the Turks treat Kurds," as if it was important that WE knew.

All I was trying to point out is that Bush knew (or should have known). But then, considering his aversion toward World (or any other kind of) history, it's quite possible that he's as clueless about the Turk/Kurd feud as he is about most things. OTOH, maybe he *did* know and just didn't / doesn't give a damn. He's all about regime change... little else. This man, afterall, tried to kill his daddy. (paraphrasing)

Okay, understood. I posted because I saw another clueless dig at average American people for not knowing everything that's happening in every little sand pit corner of the world. Shit, I don't even know how Kansans treat Missourians.

And I got your point as well. And agree with it. It was another dig at what Americans do (or rather, don't) know.

Even if Turkish History was taught in American grade schools, what bearing would that have on U.S. foreign policy? American leaders are going to do whatever they want, regardless if Sue or John Q. Public is informed or not.

    teejay:

While they finally allowed Allied Forces to at least fly over, Turkey has steadfastly refused to allow the U.S. to base troops on Turkish soil. Their forward reasoning for this seems clear: had troops been based there, said "freedom loving" troops might very well have inhibited any Turkish take-over of Northern Iraq -- which seems to have been Turkey's plan.

Exactly why Turkey should keep its sorry butt out of Iraq. Turkey's hidden agenda is so obvious as to be laughable. Contrast the agenda of the US & UK: liberation and democratization. Afghanistan is living proof; the US & UK have neither the desire nor the political latitude to plant provisional armies in these countries.

True, we clearly have a self-interest in Iraq's oil production. But so does the entire world. Does anyone here really think that the US & UK are going to take over Iraq and become Middle Eastern oil barons? That's what happened 60 years ago...but not today.

    Simon,

IMHO this is a very inflammatory title for a thread that will simply irritate most Americans, be they pro or anti - war. Let's not forget our own country's responsibilties here.

Maybe the French and the Germans could help out? Nah, just easier to criticize and let the US and the UK do the brunt of the work.

America doesn't want Turkey doing anything. But so what!? Who cares what anyone thinks these days? Its guns that rule.
