I read one of them once. Actually, for years I scratched away at a novel about Armaggedon myself, which is what prompted me to read that book. I found it naive and childish. There was a romance sequence in the book that was farcical. So I gave it away.

Let me preface by saying...............no, I don't believe they're true. No, I don't think the authors are prophets. No, I don't look to these books or the authors for spiritual guidance. And, no, I don't think these books are deep reading.

*sigh* but over the last couple of years, I've read them. They're a quick read. I think they're interesting in a "what if" kinda way. Like, what if the Rapture DID happen? Which, btw, is what the books are about - not Armageddon - at least the first 12 books.

JW's don't believe in the Rapture now.....but it's a fundamentalist teaching in the scriptures. Around the time of WWI, those at Bethel thought they'd be "caught away" to heaven .....and when they weren't, brilliantly concluded that Jesus "came" invisibly. Like some other men.

So.....this series plays "what if" the Rapture really happened on the earth.....and millions were "Left Behind."

The first movie was crappy - book better. The second movie I didn't bother renting.

I really don't care too much for fiction books, especially those about religion. My daughter has read them and it didn't do much for her either, except frighten her a little. I went to a church and saw a drama about it and it was a joke as far as I'm concerned. It's just another interpretation of a book that I consider history and people's wild imaginations.

Definately not a "no spin zone"! Hal Lindsey et al would love them, except he'd be jealous over the $$$.

I have seen part of a movie based on the book, and have read part of the first book.

For me, I am not ready to read stuff like that, which some believe will happen. I don't know what exactly the future holds, and I don't want to read about a possibility like that at this point.

But, there are many who think the books are great.

I think this series of books should be left behind on the bookshop shelf!

I read about ten of them. I thought the first couple were good stories then I just read them to see what happened next. I don't believe in the rapture but was intrigued to find out what it was all about. My brother read the whole series and believes it completely. He and his wife go to an Assembly of God church. I find it disturbing that people believe this and while it isn't armageddon, it does parallel the witness belief of some being better than others because of being saved or the promise of being saved. Know what I mean?

I wondered why the physical bodies were taken when people were raptured alive or dead. Then after the rapture the physical bodies were not taken but the believers still knew they were with God when they had died. There were several ideas in the books that just didn't work IMO and were inconsistant with other story lines. I also found it really upsetting that these books are presented as fact and not fiction. They go so far as to actually have a video for those "Left Behind" just like the video in the book. These guys are using the rapture to make money and boy are they ever rolling in it.

I remember reading somewhere about Tim LaHaye and Jenkins have certain biblical prophetic chronologies that parralel adventist/JW thought. They hold to the erroneous date of 606 or 607 for the fall of Jerusalem and figure it into their calculations. I personally would not trust a word from people who hold those chronological theories, but their books may be decent entertainment.

Worshiping the kind of god in "Left Behind" and other fear tactic propganda is rediculous. Who could love such a destructive monster. It makes Satan look like a misunderstood Che Guevara by comparison. I wonder what Jew, Hindus and the rest of "etc." think of this $hit.
