How Will They End 1914 Teaching?

Even right now we see the current earthquake in Turkey as a confirmation that we are living in the Parousia of our Lord beginning in 1914 CE.

Rubbish. There has been no statement from the US Geological Survey or any similar organisation associating the earthquake in Turkey with any religious superstition, nor do they indicate 1914 having any bearing on the frequency or severity of earthquakes. It is typical of doomsday nutters to latch on to any natural disaster and claim it is significant to their nutbaggery.

You keep making this trite assertion, because you like to make it appear as though there is ambiguity regarding the secular dating. But various sources simply repeat Thiele’s dating of 586 BCE from the 1940s before more information was available. The correct year is definitely 587 BCE. I note you never cite any modern sources that assess the date as 586 BCE rather than simply repeat that old traditional dating.

It is not an assertion but a plain fact that scholars since the time of Thiele from the fifties at least advocate two dates for the Fall of Jerusalem: 586 or 587 BCE. Even currently the date 586 BCE is the preferred date among serious scholars so if you have a problem with this then I suggest that you write a paper in defence of 587 and a refutation of 586 BCE

if you are fair dinkum I can list scholars who sup[port 586 and the most recent to hand is Obed Lipschits who I have already referenced on this post.

Tell that to our Lord Jesus, our sweet Lord Jesus who prophesied about great earthquakes as part of the Sign of his Presence in the Olivet Discourse.

There’s no evidence that Jesus said any of the words later attributed to him. Sorry if you missed the memo but Jesus is dead.

It hardly matters who ‘supports’ (parrots) Thiele’s dating of 586 BCE from the 1940s. (And his name is Oded.) But feel free to provide details of modern sources detailing why they believe 586 BCE rather than 587 BCE to be the correct year. 😂

Of course, all scholars know that 607 BCE is entirely wrong and it doesn’t even get a look in.

It probably has already been said that the "overlapping" generation addressed the fact that the members of the GB were getting older and older, and the WTS had to explain why younger and younger men were being appointed, most who claimed to be anointed long after 1935 when the WTS taught that the calling of the ended had ended. The WTS had to adjust that date of 1935 because so many more jws started self-identifying as "anointed" and the # was going up not decreasing as the WTS previously said would happen. Of course, the WTS suggested that many of these people were "confused" and were not real or genuine anointed. "

    • As Jesus had foretold in his illustration of the wheat and the weeds, it had long been impossible to distinguish wheat from weeds, genuine anointed Christians from impostors.(

For example, we cannot confirm which of the Reformers of the 16th century may have been anointed Christians.) (2012 Brother Splane pointed out that in an illustration, Jesus indicated that there would continue to be genuine anointed Christians on earth to defend the truth) (2000
      • The number of genuine anointed Christians is dwindling, yet it seems that some of them will still be on earth when the great tribulation begins.—1/15, pages 12, 13.)

That is your problem, not mine as I simply recognize the fact that scholars today do not agree on which date Jerusalem fell either 586 or 587 BCE. The reasons for this problem is down to Methodology and the claim that the Bible is at fault but WT scholars using that same biblical data have no problem as they use a different methodology for their scheme of Chronology.

Perhaps but they are challenged by it and it gets a look in via COJ's scholarship on the subject and the issue has been flagged in leading academic journals via the research of Rolf Furuli.
