Not sure this is a general lie or one that's only prevalent in our area. In my case, they keep on telling family and friends: "It was Viqun's choice to being disfellowshipped." As far as I know, the decision to disfellowship is in the hands of the three elders involved in the judicial committee, never the accused. Not that I ever want to go back, but it really irritates me when I hear this.

I had that comment thrown at me once a long time ago, 'you made the choice to be disfellowshiped', I replied, 'And you made the choice to stay ' ie go along with it and disown your own child.
