I dont know the answer to your main question, but I would be inclined to believe that if there is a God he/she would be against any institution that kills his/her creations.

My personal view is that you wont be happy as a JW. JW's are very similar to the military in that they control every aspect of your life. As a JW you have more perceived freedom because no can send you to Leavenworth to "make little rocks out of big rocks" but they exert just as much control by using psychological tools of coercion as others have pointed out. Challenging the system is not accepted in either one. Basically they both suck, I have been in the Air force for 3 years and I was a JW until
    I was 17.

could you please elaborate upon your "going back" statement? Thank you for your expedient reply.

Sorry I couldn't get back to you right away. My husband was away on business for a few days, and just got home, so I didn't go online.

I am no longer a Witness. I was disfellowshipped. But about a year or so ago, I was still considering "going back," that is, trying to get reinstated. But after learning so much about what the organisation is really like, I decided against it. I don't like being lied to. :)

    Early Christians weren't warriors.

There are at least two and arguabley four contained in the bible and I would say that is pretty early in Christianity.

    MMTP,

Thanks for your service in the military. I too serve (in the Army). I too have struggled with being christian and serving. The case is laid out fairly clear in the bible. No where at all does the bible show that serving in the military contradicts being a Christian.

All throughout the Old Testament we see that good holy people were soldiers. David, the warrior king, was said to be a man after God's own heart. In the New Testament, we see God's instruction to soldiers through John the Baptist in Luke 3:14 says this...

Soldiers also asked him, "And what is it that we should do?" He told them, "Do not practice extortion, do not falsely accuse anyone, and be satisfied with your wages." Luke 3:14 NAB

Further, we see Jesus healing the Centurion's servant by Jesus in Luke Chapter 7.

In the book of Acts we find that Peter is charged to baptize the Centurion Cornelius, who had already recieved the gift of the Holy Spirit. In all this we see no demand that to be or continue to be Christian one must leave the military.

Individual soldiers are not blood guilty for war, they are however, responsible for their personal conduct. The Commandment should properly be translated in to English, YOU SHALL NOT MURDER, instead of You Shall Not Kill.

Notice that none of God's peoples in the bible were without an Army.

Which was the greater evil, our taking Saddam out or the evil he committed against his own people?

    Serve proudly.

MMTP--- The military does not pay you to have a conscience . I am not a christian nor have I ever been one but from what I read in the bible it would be a hypocrisy to wage war against your fellow man and claim to do it in the name of Jesus . The only course of action I can see for you is to finish your time and try to get out honorably and then decide about what to do for a career. If you are that miserable tho I'm sure there are ways to get out but also sure they aren't very pleasant . I guess you could try admitting you are a conscientious objector or a homosexual . That would pobly do it .

Oh sure, lying is a great way for a Christian to shirk his duties.

I would rather be guilty of a lie than of murder any day . It was just a suggestion , if people just want to get out of the military there are plenty of ways to do it but not all of them would give you an honorable discharge .I don't think they give homos a dishonorable discharge these days .He could just tell his drill sargent he dreams of but f@$king him in the ass everynight . I bet he's outa there quicker than al bundy .lol
