Men have nipples because women need them for nursing (mammals)and evolution economizes genetic material. In other words the same genes are used to produce both men and women it is the difference of a protein/hormone production that differentiates the physiques.
Why Was Adam Blocked From Tree of Life?

I respectfully disagree that Adam had eaten from the tree of life.
Also, I stand by my opinion that Adam couldn't procreate without eating from the tree of knowledge. He didn't even realize he was naked until that time, let alone know what to do with his nakedness:
"Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree I commanded you not to eat from?" - Gen 3:11
IF Adam had eaten from the tree of life, God surely couldn't have prevented him from living forever, otherwise there wouldn't have been such a sense of urgency to remove the couple from the Garden of Eden. If they had already eaten from it, God wouldn't have cared so much, but he was dead set on PREVENTING him from eating from it. Just because he had free will to eat from every tree BUT that one, doesn't mean that he ate from the tree of life, there was alot of trees in this Garden. It's never mentioned that he ever did eat from it, only that God had to prevent him from eating from it AFTER Adam had gained knowledge, 'lest he live forever'. Surely God knew that at this point Adam had the knowledge he needed to understand what the tree of life could mean for him. And that's why there was the urgency at that time.
"The man has now become like one of us, knowing good from evil. He must not be allowed to also reach out his hand and partake also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever." Gen 3:21
And then God placed the Cherubim as guards at the gates of the Garden, to protect the tree. So you see, even after Adam had eaten from the tree of knowledge, God could not have prevented him from living forever, had he then eaten from the tree of life. Even after Adam had been kicked out of the Garden, had he been able to sneak back in and partake of the tree, he would have lived forever, and that's why the guards were in place.
So what makes you think God could have prevented Adam from living forever had he eaten from the tree of life prior to that event? He couldn't have. Adam never partook from the tree of life because he couldn't comprehend what that meant, not until after he had eaten from the tree of knowledge. Bad luck I'd say, had he even mistakenly eaten from the tree of life prior to eating from the tree of knowledge, God couldn't have done a thing. Adam would have had knowledge AND lived forever.
If God had to take such drastic measures to prevent them from eating from this tree and living forever, even after they were removed from the Garden, then surely had they eaten from this miraculous tree right off the bat, they'd have been all set from the beginning.

Why did Adam have nipples
Men have nipples because ALL babies are female until a certain point in development. Some gene in the Y chromosome will trigger the shift to maleness. However, at this point the nipples had already developed. What's even more weird is there are females with XY chromosomes. (The gene/hormone/whatever from the Y chromosome that was supposed to trigger the change to maleness didn't do its job.)
So in conclusion, it is interesting to note that the default sex is female.
I don't think there are any "double Y" females like in the movie Alien 3.

Here's a hint: the story is allegorical. It shows that we must obey anything that claims to be a higher power without question or we will die.

StinkyPantz
Dr. Watson and Peaceful Pete-
You two are funny. You actually answered the nipple question. . . It was a joke. I know evolutionarily why men have nipples, I was joking. But thanks anyway.
RevMalk-
Thanks for knowing I was joking, some people take me too seriously.

I figured you were joking, but I think it's interesting why men have nipples and like to share it whenever possible. You gave me an opportunity and I couldn't refuse.

Anyway StinkyPantz, the correct question is "Why did Adam have a navel?"
The WTS pitures him with one, and we all know how accurate those pictures are. (This was always a pet peeve of mine... at bookstudy or whatever someone would say, oh that guy on the right is Peter because he has grey hair and ...)

My take on the "tree of knowledge" was that.......well first, it's a symbol. And second - I don't think it's actual KNOWLEDGE like how to have sex (as mentioned earlier). The scripture says it is the tree of knowledge of "good and bad". Prior to this point Adam was unaware of evil. Being unaware those thoughts would never evolve. After being exposed to evil it is there - no matter how much one fights it, it's there.
I liken it to a child - when they're 1 or 2 years old they have absolutely no concept of murder, rape, evil things that people do to one another. They don't even imagine it until they are exposed to it in some way - which we all are at some point either through a story, news, tv, whatever.
If Adam had never been exposed to evil would evil exist in our world?
Well - that's my 2 cents.

Dawn, ever seen one of those documentaries where they show the life of insects close up? It's horror in it's truest sense. Evil insects that fight, eat each-other, bite each-other's heads off while having sex, etc, etc, need I say more? People say, "it's a jungle out there", or "it's a man eat man world", well it really is. We have a complex "fight or flight" response system built into us, for the purpose implied. It is us who have been taking ourselves out of this dangerous world over the centuries, seperating ourselves clearly at the top of the food chain and wrapping our everyday lives in cotton wool.

I've wondered why Adam and Eve were blocked from the tree of life. My guess is that, since God's word is unchangeable, their somehow eating of it may well have obliged God to bestow upon them the life that the tree symbolized, just as He carried out his sentence of death for partaking of the tree of knowledge. Once God stated that death would be the result of eating of the tree of knowledge, I guess he was bound by his own word to carry out sentence. Of course, this raises another question - what if Adam and Eve would have repented? Would God still have carried out his sentence?
