Cassi, In your opinion someone without computer, phone, TV and sex are suffering?
that depends on the situation. what do you have in mind for them? a 10 feet * 10 feet cell room with absolutely nothing to do? that would indeed constitute a very cruel punishment.
Hey, why not have all criminals live in the counrty club prisons which are afforded to the "privledged people"? This is horrible, IMO that people think that murderers and those who rape babies should be allowed to have such items when they are a menace to society.
exaggerations don't help.
i am right that in summary your argument is that any tax dollar is wasted on these criminals?
in this case why is it not ok to let them work for their TV, computer, books, etc.?
Does it not seem to you that certanity and severity in the punishing phase of a criminal will assure the determent of those who seek to prusue a life of crime? I am not monolithic in my viewpoint, I believe that tax dollars can be used for the rehabilation of some offenders. And they would be few, those without a high rate of recidivism, those who are most likely no to be a repet offender, those who are teens or first time offenders. Then there are those I mentioned earlier who can't be helped, or don't want to be helped -- hardened criminals, pedophiles, serial murderers, rapists. These people as you put it, I believe should be "made to suffer", without TV, books, computers, etc.--amemities.

Yes, I believe many should be made to live in these conditions.
exaggerations don't help.
"Club Fed" -- the way I understood you, seemed as if you were advocating a prison with just about everything, so as not to injure the fragile psyches of these violent offenders.

If they ( violent offenders) as I described above wanted to have the privilege of working and having these things afforded to them to include work then they should have conformed to the expectations of society, in not commiting the crimes to begin with. Unless we have a justice system that does not encourage repeat offenders assuring the specific deterrences I mentioned above are met out, then those who are inlined to commit crime will continue to do so.
