beryl,

You can DO anything you want or put your mind to...and not sacrifice being a woman. All I ask is that I be treated with the same regard as a man. I am proud of being one. And I am tired of taking shit for it.
Oh, OK, that makes sense. I was confused.
I like guys, too. I don't think guys should take shit just for being guys. It's unfair for women to take out their rage on the bad guys, on good guys.
But I also don't suffer fools gladly, be they male or female.
And as far as the whole male/female thing...my motto is:
Only weak men are intimidated by strong women.
You can DO anything you want or put your mind to...and not sacrifice being a woman.
Actually, I find this sentence absurd. The only way I can sacrifice being a woman is on the operating table.
Part of the problem with a discussion like this is that no one defines what equal means. I can only think of one important measure where one sex is superior to the other: women have the ability to bring a new life, a new person, into this world. In my view, this makes women superior to men, if we must make such petty categorisations.
Even the ability to not bear children does not make any one person less equal than another. Is a barren woman less equal than a child-bearing woman? Obviously both are equal.
Other than the one reason mentioned above, the reasonings used are much like those used when discussing are blacks and whites really equal?
If you want to figure out if both sexes are equal, think about what equal means and see if you can find any member of both sexes who fits the bill. Chances are, you will.
As far as various skills such as math or language skills, equality is not an issue. Is a person who is poor at math less equal than a person who is skilled at math?
Math and language skills only matter if you are hiring a mathematician or a language expert. And at the point, it does not matter if the person you are hiring is a man or a woman. It is easy to find people of both sexes who are good and bad at any skill. Skill level is generally independent of sex.
I cannot think of any area where being a certain gender guarantees that a person is somehow more equal than the opposite sex. This is simple common sense.
Are you getting the kind of answers you were looking for? Appears to be a lot of political correctness up in here...
Well, I knew it was a long shot....I didn't think anyone would actually post that he thought men were superior. I do, however, feel some men do.

Women CAN do anything they want.
I don't want them to. Working for and with women results in what I call an "estrogenated atmosphere." Gossip, bitterness, backbiting... all of it from the women. The men are much more easy going, in my experience.
I hate working for women. I have found them to be inconsistent, paranoid as to their authority, resentful of any ideas or contributions I've made. A woman boss is the reason I quit my job at a newspaper, and I think her reverse sexist ultra-feminist attitude was the basis for her hatred of me.
When there is a nice, relaxed atmosphere, a balance of men and women working, then it is a lot better. Even some women have mentioned that it is nice to be working with a man as opposed to a woman, because in their experience the women have been petty and micromanagers.
Now that I work in a coffee shop, it's a lot easier to get along with everyone...
Women that feel the need to prove themselves are horrible to work for and with. Women that can kick it and joke around with the boys are great. So I guess it is an individual thing.

With the help sperm of a man I might add.
I hate working for women
Amen to that brother!

So... some of us are just trying to be politically correct? Some truly believe men and women should be considered equals. It has nothing to do with not wanting to "offend" someone. Give me a break.
Craig & Kate: Craig is intellectually better than Kate, except when Kate is intellectually better than Craig. Kate is emotionally better than Craig, except when Craig is emotionally better than Kate.

No, I don't think so, and I do appreciate everyone's responses.
For the record, I don't like working for women. OR men. I don't like working for anyone other than myself. Period. That said, I think I myself was a crappy (ultra) low-level manager. Those whom I "managed" thought I was great: understanding, fair and consistent. Upper management did not agree. They thought me too lenient. All for the employee, and not a company person at all.
