Were You Ever Put On Restrictions?

Put on restrictions for turning myself and my fiance in for making out while engaged to be married (no sex). We moved to another congregation and assumed that the restrictions went along with us, so we were careful to abide by them. Finally, after about five years, and after several bouts of sporadic inactivity, I asked one of the elders in the new congregation (second one) when restrictions would be removed. He checked with the original congregation and found that they had totally forgotten about the whole thing, and supposedly restrictions were removed after about a year or so....but they never bothered to tell us.

It was nice, though, not being able to comment or give talks.

The only time I remember losing any priv's was after a few drunken parties during my early 20's. But the elders never informed me that I could no longer do the mic's, sound, or bk study reading. My name simply dropped off the information board. That congo eventually lost about 4 or 5 kids to df'ing right after I left. I guess we set a good example for them to follow.

I LOVE the comment about the elders wanting to give back "privileges" only to be rebuffed!

How did you feel when you were told that a certain "privilege" was being taken from you?

I was secretly thrilled!! I was told I couldn't go out in Service or answer at the meetings because I got drunk at someone's wedding (can't remember this, but I took their word on it). It was the best 3 months of my life as a Dub!!

I was put on probation for 6 months so I couldnt handle the microphones (devastating huh), couldnt answer up in book study or at the KH (so everyone knew I had done something bad...gossip).

My crime? I read Ray Franze book & Randy Watters "Thus saith" then went and confessed to an elder that I couldnt deal with what I'd read. He told me "these books are designed to deceive" and with that "satisfactory answer" I threw myself back into the service. BTW I was allowed to continue on the service, that privilage was not taken away.

I had the "privilage" of doing the mic's taken away from me because of lackluster service time.

I had the privelage of being named "Unbaptized Publisher" taken away from me because I quit going out on service.

Oh, I forgot one other situation where field service privileges can be taken away, when the individual is an unbaptized publisher. Once you are baptized they can't take that away unless they DF you or you DA yourself.

I was reinstated after being df'd for about 13 years. But when they reinstated it was with restriction. No commenting and they actually said because I wouldn't be "up to date" on the current situations within the Society. No field service, no nothing. I was allowed to come to meeting and I was allowed to sing Praise to Jehovah and oh, yeah, now my parents could sit down at the table and eat with me.

Any chance there might have been of me truly coming back to the fold was flushed that day. I went to meeting two times after that and haven't been back since. Oops, not true, I did attend Memorial twice. That was ten years ago.
