As a sideline, is there an equivalent opposite word for feminism? Like masculinism?
Even though I generally find Christianity to be a bit...questionable, a line from the Bible would suffice here: "Do unto others as you would want them to do unto you." Etc.
If feminists are ugly, does that mean male chauvenists and other male misogynists are ugly too?
Or did you just really, really, really not think that one through and subscribe to the misogynistic stereotypical view of a feminist as some crop-haired dyke in dungarees with hairy legs?

since i didn't get a beating in quite a while i will say that i think mecurious actually has a point. very beautiful females usually get successful man and thus arrange with the system.

One of my closest friends is an extremely pretty petite blonde. As a result of being constantly pursued, stalked, and abused by men only interested in her physical beauty instead of her intellect she has become a feminist of the man hating persuasion. I don't think she actually hates them, just feels she can't trust them at all. She has her BA in fine arts so she really does have "brains and smarts". She gets alot of flack from other women too especially "feminists" who treat her like an idiot based on her looks. I personally would just like to see men and women on an equal footing which I guess makes me a feminist to some people too.

Feminism is the advocacy of women's rights on the ground of equality of the sexes -
feminists are not women who hate the men they can't get- they are women who hate the inequality of a system or belief that still tries to imply that women are inferior. to men in our society.

The superiority and man-hating- feminist myth is one that constantly and no doubt purposely clouds the real issue- and that is that women HAVE to have equality -it is a basic human rights issue and that's what the word means.
I think you're talking about 'gold diggers' a totally different issue.
The MEDICAL term' feminism' is the development of female characteristics in a male person- not the other way around.

I can vouch for that one. But isn't it that a few spoil it for the majority. Termite, you thanked us for staggering along when you went to your car on Sunday, but some women would have slapped us just for having the idea. Equal oppurtunities is a very good thing, but some people take it to extremes, and for personal agendas, and this spoils all the good work done by others. Some people are just ugly inside, and you can see it by looking at them.

I have had many men and women tell me that I am pretty. When I graduate from med school, I think that we should get together sometimes and you can tell me if I match your ideal of pretty.
In 6 years I will look forward to my glamourous life style that I paid for myself--as soon as I get those college loans paid off.

Hmmm....most *pretty girls* are just girls in HS. By the time they get to *pretty* they are in late HS or college. Most HS in the US, at least when I was growing up, didn't push math or science. I still made it through college. And it was not on my looks. Those didn't develop until after college.
Realist, being seduced by a comfortable or glamorous lifestyle comes to very few women. Now matter how they look. Ugly women with money can be made better looking and good looking women can be made beautiful. You think those boobs and smooth skin are real?!
I too have been told I am pretty. I am *hit* on all the time. Do I encourage it or bat my eyelashes to play it up? NO. Big deal. I am married. I don't care.
Frankly, I think Merc posted this to get a rise and see who would post, who would *come out* (Tina, hugs all her Feminists Friends) and try to stir up crap.
