Does prophesy negate free will?

I brought something similar up with an elder once. I asked about the flood of Noah's time. According to the Bible, the earth was covered by a canopy holding massive amounts of moisture, hence the flood.

So if man had not been so sinful and there was not a flood, would we never have seen the sun? Or another way of thinking, what was the purpose of all of that potential rain sitting above our heads?

    Of course, no answer.

RaD, good point. The supposed god of bible stories has very little scientific knowledge fore or aft.

Water is a good absorber of radiation. It is pitch dark in the deep ocean. a "water canopy" 10 km thick (the ~ heights of Everest), would block all light. and : How would such a structure be supported? by pressurizing the atmosphere below? or by rotation? like the rings of Saturn? or store it on Mars and bring it down, drying that planet? so:

in hindsight, the bible story god "regretted to have made men" or angels for that matter. truth matters.

Of course nothing says God did not know of the fall (and the reality the allegory portrays) or indeed planned it. The sacrificial Lamb was forordained

Joen - Then god is morally responsible for 300,000 years of human suffering.

    Cofty,

Sure and God is not ashamed by it. Remember what Paul says concerning potter and clay. But to sum up the human experience as suffering seems like something coming from a depressed mind. There is much more to it. The idea that the fall was something bad dates back to Augustine. Irenaeus saw it differently.

I am not sure why pre-knowledge would negate the free will in the choice. Just because someone knows what someone would choose doesn’t mean that person didn’t actually make the choice.

MMM - If every single detail of your life was inevitable from before your conception then you have never made a free choice.

Are you having a cup of coffee right now? Which blend? What colour of mug did you choose? How many sips did you take to finish it? Did you finish it? Did you just touch your nose? Which side? Which hand? Did you glance out the window? How long did you look?

According to xtians like Joan EVERY detail including thousands of things we could say about the last five minutes of your day was cast in stone before your birth.

How exactly is freedom or genuine human relationships possible?

It was not difficult to predict, that instead of an enlightening repost there would be irritating irrational personal comments.

I think the process of creating through random development and then testing for efficiency, as we see in evolution, as compared to bible fables, shows that a possible creator has left a lot to uncertainty. he himself seems to enjoy seeing what would evolve. but having mechanism in place to continue a good outcome.

not the child sacrifice of the bible ransom doctrine bsw, imho.
