Hmmm, "this generation apparently refers . . ." According to the American Heritage Dictionary the word apparently means " Appearing as such but not neccessarily so" How interesting that the new light in 1995 left plenty of wiggle room.

I am with those who think that there is a clear hint of date here. Now, it must be pointed out that, as dmouse said later - and minimus refuse to accept - they seem to imply that 120 years after 1914 is the deadline, which means the end may come at any moment from now until '34.
It's so sad, so sad! (shaking head in disbelief they're doing that again).

I agree that they are trying to get the slightly smarter than average dub, one with a good memory and a head for figures, to work out the date of 2034, and then they are banking on him swaying the ordinary rank and file with persuasion and forceful delivery from the platform.
I know. I used to be that guy. The Bethelite-in-training, the geek with perfect hair and a penchant for colorful ties, the one who never dreamed of doing evil things, who KNEW that the Society was right, that got a genuine feeling of pleasure from discussing the "deep things" with his fellow "sheep", from sitting there and working out just how many angels each witness had following him around in the preaching work, who trembled with fear and wept lest he accidentally bring home a demonized CD that would turn on his stereo in the middle of the night, who wouldn't hang out with anybody that missed the meeting that week, who missed out on many plays because of conflicts with rehearsals and meeting schedule, who consistently gave up the "things of this world" and waited expectantly for the paper that would announce the end of organized religion... god... what a dweeb I was...

For everybody's information, this article is due to be studied in the week of January 19 - 25
I would be grateful if anyone in good standing could attend that meeting and report back on what was said and any conversations overheard afterwards (you might even want to start a conversation and steer it towards what this article might mean).
Also that week someone might be able to monitor the pro JW boards to see if anyone picks up on this (or even start a thread yourself ).
I expect there will be a 'question from readers' about this sometime mid-summer, with further clarification.

We will just have to wait and see what they say next on this subject.
Personally I think the jigsaw pieces have been given out by the GB, they will now wait to see if the R&F can put them together to make the picture. Not stating things outright is their current modus operandi (sp?).
The reason for this is simple - plausible deniability.
I also think Stephanus makes an excellent point about a succession of minor dates (not stated but hinted at) to keep the dubs on their toes. This article is important as it sets an outside limit on the length of this system; but an imminent Armageddon will still be pushed.

This means I can celebrate every darn Holiday there is for a few more years. This will be my first Christmas in 25 years. Iam so happy the dubs have given me more time to play and make fun of them

they never stop with dates do they. just in the aug@ 2002 wt they were saying we are almost 70 years into the generation of the annointed from 1935 . and giving the idea, that this generation would be the last add 70-80+ years to 1935 and you get from 2005-@ 2030 tops! then in a 2001may wt and a 1997 wt they say " we can confidently say today millions now living will never die". that gives a max of 100 years , if they count all the babies born at the thoses years.in the 1980's it was the generation of 1914 and references to the year 2000 . be fore that it was 1975. even the idea of 3 1/2 years from 75 to 1979. they even threw out a few references to 1984and 86 . there was the whole idea that the u.s.s.r was the king of the north , and would take over the u.s etc in that time line from the 1950's -90's back to the generation 1914+37 =1951 or 1914 +40 =1954 the korean war. before that it was hitler was approved by jehovah 1934-38, then when the wt got dumped by the nazis , hitler became the king of the north to take over the world and finish in the big A . in the late 20's the next war was to be a mustard gas war! the greaqt tribulation was to start in 1936, the rapture was to be in 1931-32. in the 20's jesus was to talk on radio to tell all about 1925 ( see finished mystery)there was to be a rapture in 1921. all the gov't destroyed in 1920 in 1918 first armageddon then all non jw's bodies rotten in the streets. of course the big A in 1914 or 1915 and also ww1 being armageddon. lets go back to 1799 and the french dumping the pope on some island and you have the beginning of the time of the end and 1829 being the falling of the heavens and earth to bring us to 1844. and the second advent of christ - then an invisble invent in 1844or 45 and add 30 years to bring you to , all the false prophecies of the 1870's the 6000 years in 1872or75 and jesus returning again in 1874 and to kingdom power in 1878, i know i forget about 1873+76 and the pyarmid. but the rapture in 1881 on easter sunday . with russell standing on a bridge in pittsburg with the newspapers there to record him going to heaven . had to be a nice scoop. just for good measure the great tribulation to be in first 1905-07 then 1910-12. was a little more wt nonsense... i know i left out maqny dates and got some of the teaching and dates mixed up. but it has worked for the adventists and the wt for some 200 years . so what is to stop them from doing it some more for the next 2000 years. from the words of P.T.
