Dear Terry, So sorry to hear your story. I really don't have much to add. All the people above said it all. Like you, I found so many caring people here on this board. It feels good to be able to release feelings without being criticized or put down. Be so thankful for your husband, and also for your grandmother. Take care.
I went to see my mom after 4 years, now I am sadder

She did tell you she loves you. I'm sure that took all the courage she had to be a real person instead of a WT drone for a few minutes. They just don't know how to do that.
Cherish that small token. It was a victory for you. Maybe not as big a victory as you were hoping, but some of us (even us whose moms aren't JWs) just have to be content with the moms we got rather than the moms we were hoping for. My grandma was great, too.
Besides, if she was 'too' nice to you, there's a very real possibility it could be used against her by some in the org - that it was her fault you don't 'return to Jehovah' because she's not tough enough on you!
I used to hear people say this about members of the congregation - that they should just stop whining about family who'd left, because they didn't shun them harshly enough, they didn't have reason to come back ("they'll be bloodguilty at Armageddon" was how they talked about those who didn't shun harshly enough)

Try to keep in mind...."Just because a Person Doesn't Love You The Way You Wish, Doesn't Mean That Person Doesn't Love You"
You were very brave to visit your mother. You're actions prompted her to take a very difficult step in telling you she loves you. There is hope yet. Don't give up! Please also remember you have a family out here. We love you very much!
