shelby and Tsunami I couldn't quite figure out

I don't know who Tsunami is... but shelby is that rare breed, a JW who knows the 'truth about the Truth' but has decided to stay. She was generally considered a trouble-maker by the mods/admins of most Witness sites, and got banned a couple of times until she learned to keep her mouth shut. Which is funny, of course, because when it comes down to it, she is actually a defender of the Watchtower.

WitnessWorld was founded by people who left PLN because they felt that it was too restrictive. So I'm not surprised that they're relatively open, and let this thread go on for a little while. I don't think that they're "covert apostates" or anything like that... but I do think it's certainly possible that at least some of them may follow the same journey that I did... from open-minded Witness to ex-Witness.

somebodylovesme: sure enough, and hour later, I'm "temporarily suspended".

DAMN IT. I got kicked off. I messaged the mod and asked why brucejw had been kicked off. She wrote back and said they had checked his ISP and saw that he visited an "apostate" site. I knew then I was screwed... sure enough, and hour later, I'm "temporarily suspended".

How do they go about checking if you have been visiting apostate sites? I don't see how they can tell that by checking his ISP.

I don't know how they're tracking it, but it's pretty scary. They must have some spyware. Scary for the Witnesses who are there -- just think, if they visit a "Questionable" site (and what isn't?) they could get reported to their congregation and get in some serious trouble. Yeah, that's loving.

I don't know for sure that they tracked me, since I was only "Temporarily" suspended. Maybe they suspended me until they can track me. So I'm here at this apostate site... bwahahahahaaaa.

You know, they are changing their "admission" policy so that it is like PLN - you have to be referred by a member to get in. Probably a good idea. Can't let any outside thoughts get in and mess up happy-land. Most of their topics are about buying purses and taking vacations and "oh look at my pretty wedding picture!" ... much very boring. Spice is bad. Thinking is bad. Bye-bye you wicked heathen apostates who spit out FACTS!

    Sigh.

There is a software that one can install to track as people log into the site. It shows where you came from, and then where you go to after you leave their site. They used to have it on Great Crowd.net. That why I always opened a new browser window when I came here looking for apostates at the time. I didn't know if Simon had that software so I would close my window at Great Crowd before coming here to see who was bragging about the fun they were having at JWD.

    ditto that question.

How do they know he visited that "apostate" site? What if it's a work computer and somebody else used it? What if a family member is not a JW and they use the computer? What if he's using a public computer in an Internet coffee shop? Why the paranoia? Even the elders have to investigate before formally accusing someone of wrongdoing. Geez, this person is judge, jury, executioner and apparently God.

Here's what's so hypocritical about this mess. The WTS has over and over counseled against these sites being run by JWs, yet here they are, running one. And on top of that defending the corporation that, if they could, would shut them down for not following their guidelines. And then this person is so self-righteous that they think they can determine who is or isn't worthy enough to be an approved associate.

I highly doubt anyone is taking the time to report if you go to improper sites. They know their sites are montitored with a raised eyebrow too and try to keep a low profile with elders. (I know of one owner when the elders contacted her regarding congregation allegations and things on the net who refused to even return their email. She ran tail.. )

If they have the software installed, they will use it only to keep control on their site so their members can feel safe.

I don't know who is running witness world. I do know the one who runs http://foreverfriends.us very much plays judge on who is 'worthy' to be on her site. If she gets a hint of who she thinks is an apostate, she immediately is discussing them in the admin forum. She gives them a little rope to hang themself. The thing is half the people she thinks are apostate aren't..

    Sassy -

So if you are viewing the WW site in one browser window and this forum in another, they shouldn't be able to track? That's what I did last night and today - mainly so I could copy and paste and monitor both at the same time.

I'm kinda pissed that they suspended me. I shouldn't be- - it's silly - but it was so much fun to read that post!! :)

I don't think most dubs even know there ARE legitimate websites out there, which leads me to question how the dubs on that board even found it. They are "forbidden" from typing "jehovah's witnesses" into a search engine -- I heard that explicitly at a meeting about a month ago -- so how are they coming across it? Is it all word of mouth? That seems unlikely since there are dubs from all over the U.S. and Canada there.

    Suspicious.

As Sassy said, they can't monitor every site you go to... only where you were directly before (and possibly where you go after).

I've posted more info on this in a new thread.

    (Oh, and xjw... thanks! )
