Women's Fashion Woes...a fluffy rant

This is why I buy all my clothes on eBay. I start by typing color/fabric, item and size in as search terms (say, "purple pants 2x" or "tie dye t-shirt 4x") and bid on the best listing.

So instead of looking like Bella Abzug trying to dress like JLo, I look like a trust-fund hippie. Man, I just LOVE my brown velvet snake-print blouse and my faux-linen pink tunic and my eight or nine pairs of rayon pants. You can get any size on eBay. And I generally spend as much money there, including postage, as I would at Ross.

Haven't tried buying shoes there, as I'm very hard to fit. But, LadyLee, a search for "silver jacket" on eBay turns up over 200 items, including a size L silver/grey snakeskin print that I would bid on if it were larger. Or you might decide what dress to wear and buy a pashmina in the same color -- wouldn't a silk/cashmere shawl be just too fabulous?

Whilst in Italy in October, I ran across these. I'm sure they would scruch up those toes, but damn! both the shoes and the thigh-high boots are sexy. I'm sure the right occasion would outweight the suffering of the toes for an evening!

Frannie, I have two words for you: UGG boots. They're the hottest thing right now with everything from pants to miniskirts, and are actually comfortable. Go figure! As for the pointy-toed shoes, I admit I have a pair of small boots like that and I bought them half a size larger than usual so my toes could still wiggle.
My rant: swimsuits. Guys don't have to do bikini waxes -- why should we??? Cut the damn things a little better, please!!!

uh...I don't know what UGG boots are, Nina...but you did the right thing when you got a larger size of those pointy toed boots...I bet your toes are thankin' you right now...LOL! And, yes, that swimsuit craze is stupid...I agree...next thing you know, they'll be made of just thongs...the whole swimsuit of thongs!!!

I like the crochet designs . They are everywhere, form jeans to skirts, sweaters. I love it, it reminds me of the 70's. I love the low cut jeans, but only skinny girls can wear them. I remember the original "hip hugger jeans". I wore them the first time...

One piece of fashion advice i saw on Oprah, if u are old enough to have worn the retro stuff the first time around, don't wear it the second. unless u are blessed with the body of a super model.

My rant. why do all the models and young actresses look so thin? They have bodies of preteen boys. women should have curves.

OOOOOOOOOO...Me, too, Wednesday! As a matter of fact, I'm just now beginning to write the patterns for crocheted baby garments and women's and children's novelty design sweaters, so I can start my own crochet pattern catalog business....I wore the original hip hugger jeans, too...plan on doin' it again...heheh...they were with the bodyshirts that snapped in the crotch back in the 70's....I really didn't like that idea when it came time to go potty....LOL! And designers should get a CLUE about those waifer-thin models on the runways and in the fashion mags....normal women don't look like that....only young teens...and most of them don't have that kind of money, so why pander to them? SHEESH!

OMG Don't get me started. What's with the stores that they buy this stuff thinking only young people have the money? Don't they realize the baby-boomers look insane in these things?

Finding something half-way decent without looking like my grandmother is next to impossible some years. And now with all the pointy shoes just try to find a decent round toed shoe anythere. It they decide stiletto heels you're pretty much stuck with running shoes if you need a pair of shoes for something. My daughter is getting married in 2 weeks and you think I can find a pair of shoes to wear? Not that I will be on my feet much but really!! Everyone is selling black shoes and I need color! Even white will do and I will dye it for pete's sake.

Yea and try to find a fancy dress without spending an arm and a leg when you are older. I don't want strapless in winter or backless. What the heck have they done with sleeves for these things. I now have 4 dresses to choose from and not one has sleeves - for a winter wedding. So try finding a jacket - Yikes I want silver - but noooooo this is a gold year so not a hint of silver anywhere.

Ok I'm going to go get a heavy mocha with lots of cream and calm down grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

ROFLPMP, Lee!!! I agree...no SLEEVES??? Drab colors ONLY???? What were they thinking of? I like colors and LOTS of 'em....and what middle-aged woman with the upper arm potential for flagging down airplanes wants a dress without SLEEVES?????

I think I'll go back to sewing my own clothes again. My clothing fabrics/prints won't look so cookie cutter, and besides that, it's fun!

You and me, TOO, Nilfun! I love to sew....I can pick out the fabric, print or solid in the color *I* want and alter the design to suit "moi" and have something that no one else has....for pennies on the dollar!

Sorry to "throw it over the fence" and "cut & run"

I feel that running is more effective than ducking.

    That's okay, Mav....it's probably because they're...http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/12/65115/1.ashx

Wednesday, Lee, and Xenawarrior? Those tips on Chadwicks and Roaman's and Lane Bryant are right on target....PLUS....there's a not widely known Midnight Velvet site that sports a few very chic and dressy outfits for special occasions.....hint: You can use your Chadwicks or Lerner's card at Roaman's and Lane Bryant, I believe...

I have enough trouble with my feet thanks. As it is I won't be dancing at the wedding. The 5th pair of orthotics have gone back to the maker and the wheelchair is flying to Montreal with us. Will try to take some pictures and post my choices so far.

    All advice is appreciated
