I was at the meeting today and I didin't get the impression that the general dub population is speculating on 2034.

My Mom came home from the meeting today telling me how good the watchtower study was. I asked her, "did you see the part about 120 years?" She told me "yes I did, and even though they did not come out and say it, 2034 is the end. I just know it is."

I want to cry. No really I want to shake her and say use your head woman!!! I know either one wont do any good.

Sounds like a desperate attempt to keep the flock from leaving.

If everyone here is agreed that Noah had 120 years to wait for the flood, and that is common knowledge to Dubs, and it is now what they are preaching from the pulpit stage platform, then why, in an article in the mid to late 90s, did an article on Noah say that he had probably 50 to 60 years to build the ark?

You see, I had cottoned on to the "120 years that Noah had to wait added to 1914 to get 2034" idea just before that article had come out. When the article came out, I thought that the Bethel boys had painted themselves into a corner by not allowing themselves that escape route. But apparently, they read this (or one of the other) board(s) and came across that idea and thought they'd revive 1914 using it, adding another instance to the long list of Watchtower inconsistencies.

Just agree with her. Then say: "Mom, does that mean that the Org has set a new date for the end, like 1975?"

Wasn?t it announced by the NASA Jet Propulsion Lab a few years ago that the "near earth orbit" asteroid; 1999 AN10 was due to significantly intersect the Earth?s plane 30 or 40 years out with extremely remote, but potentially catastrophic results?

Much of the media hype has currently been put on the back burner, but I wouldn?t be surprised that as the occurrence of this scientific fact nears, the associated religious fervor will be a much welcomed boost for North American fundamentalist tax-free revenue over the next thirty years.

As a few more years go by...........I foresee another big problem for the Society.........the members of the Governing body themselves days are numbered (as in their normal lifespan), so who is going to fill their shoes if a couple more decades go by?

I know they've already included a number of "regular" people in many areas........but never have any of these people taken over for any GB members.

I think there's only 11 members currently............appointing very recently anointed members (well after 1935) would cause a major credibility problem.

Note: very interesting essay on E-watchman.........."the coming collapse of the Watchtower"

They have done that and the wheel continues to turn. What's up? GaryB

This allows a GENUINE and OFFICAL change in a lot of the unwritten "customs" of this cult. This is going to allow the younger ones to go ahead and make a legitimate future for themselves, by going to college, getting careers, buying houses, having families (thus seeding future automatons), and by the time they start getting close to 2057, a whole new set of victims will be ready for the next date 30-40 years out. It's gotta be within adults' lifetimes NOW or it won't pan out. But I can take comfort in knowing I can live a wicked life for another good 25 years, then come 'round, see the light, change my evil ways, (when I'm an old lady and have no more interest in living a "real life" anyway). Cool. I did the right thing sixteen years ago. (not that I had any doubt then, but it is always nice to be right) I wonder how my mom feels about all this. Shoshana
