How good of you to educate us ignerunt Canadians Yerusalim. Taxes?!! Who would have thought?
Don't worry, Yerusalim. When you fill up at most petrol stations up here, they have stickers on the filling stations stating just how much is taxes and exactly how much they make. It is minimal compared to the taxes.
I just filled up my gastank today. 87.9p / Litre.
Equivalent to:
It cost me £50 ($89.50)
i'm not sure what that is in £ sterling, but i used to pay on average £ 45-50 to fill a car tank in the UK, at current exchange rates that works out around $80 (US Dollars), that was both on a 2.5 V6 engine car and on a 4.0 V8 engine, but still, the tanks weren't particularly big, fuel is just expensive in the UK, the US has it so damn easy when it comes to fuel prices!
YES !
It cost us about £40 to fill up our SMALL car in the UK.
It is terrible. My son just got his DL and it's too expensive to cruise main street. It doesnt help that he is driving a 4x4 V8 either.....we may need to get a little car instead for him.
No wonder I have seen so many kids riding their horses all over the place.

You are probably right. It was my husband who did the figuring.
I'm quite sure you know who I mean.. since you knew him at one time in your life.
High costs is high costs and it sure wollops the old pocket book at the gas tanks.
Yeru.. you are right somewhat,
I guess the guy I feel sorry for the most up here is the families that do not have medical insurance coverage from their workplace.
I'm not sure but I think you are mistaken in thinking that all our medical bills, drugs etc are paid through taxes.
Most hospital procedures and visits to the doctor are paid through taxes (which I know would be a whopping costs if I had to pay for them)
but all the medicines and prescription orders I get must be paid for by me. For alot of people that is still alot of money that they don't get reimbursed for if they don't have a medical plan which they too must pay for to cover those benefits. I do have a medical plan.. but many families don't have employment that has a medical plan (which again you have to pay for). They have families and work for minimum wage.
Anyways..... that price for gas is still too damn high.
sincerely

We just bought a new SUV, rather largish with a 44 gallon gas tank. The dealership sent us home with a full tank two weeks ago and I still have about 1/3 left. It gets absolutely HORRIBLE mileage. The way the prices are going up daily it's going to cost me $100 by the time I finally have to fill it. Should last about three to four weeks the way I drive around town.
There is a reason you don't drive Excursions and such in the UK, eh?
Special K - yup! pretty sure I remember your hubby... :) All the little girls had a crush on him! haha
LT - help me out here....if a gallon contains 4.55 litres (do we all agree on that?), then how can 1.57 US Dollars / Litre translate to 5.94 US Dollars / US gallon? Would it not be $7.14 USD per gallon? (truly obscene, btw!)

(We would love to have you drop in to visit with us)
I believe too that my american husband says you have to take into account that an american gallon is different than our gallon and what the heck is an imperial gallon?.....
Damn.. I hate math!
(hugs)
