My mother can remember when TV first came out and they called it the Devil's eyeball.

My JW Grandmother called TV that, too.

His group caused a stir on Pathways-Online and were blocked by the administrator.

Seems they consider themselves active JWs.

I think that the WBTS is in a catch 22 when it comes to the internet. I am sure that they do not want their faithful dubs to explore, and find one of the many countless sites about the Borg, and the enticing things that can draw a faithful dub away, but if they say that you can't even use the internet, they will be dooming themselves, because I am sure countless people would then realize what a F%^$ed up religion, cult, whatever you wanna call it really is, and think that many people would leave the Org. as the internet has become a lifeline for those that use it, and to have that taken away would be the straw that broke the camel's back. I think the Borg will be treading very lightly when it comes to this topic.

Damned if they do, and Damned if they don't.......I LOVE IT!!!

In fact, at one time books WERE considered a threat. That's why the RCC developed their list of condemned books. The Watchtower needs to compose a list of condemned websites LOL.

That's what I would say if an elder told me that cockamamie line.

Also, the itnernet is like a library. Are JWs prohibited from going to the library? Because I can honestly say that the beginning of the opening of my eyes happend through a library book about the early christians. So there!

Come to think of it though, how many JWs go to the library?

the CO gave a talk on how a spider spins his web and it can take a very long time for the web to be made but just like that--- before you know it---it can catch its prey and devour it. It's the same with the world wide web, the internet.

I also heard this talk but it was put slightly different -- the CO opened with "It is no coincidence it is called "The World Wide Web" it is a tool owned by Satan and used by Satan to trap unsuspecting brothers and sisters like a fly in a spiders web" ----

Sounds a bit like the Roman Catholic Church during the Reformation when the bible printed on (gasp, shock, horror) The Printing Press was deemed a tool of Satan -- it is the same with all high control organizations , they do not like a mass communication medium which everybody has access to -- it removes the control

I used to go to the library as a kid to read on the QT, "apostate" books. Who would've ever thought, huh??

Special K: It's freedom of information that they can't as easily control.... so as usual, a way to keep their followers cut off from knowledge they program and instill a great fear of it.

egads! It reminds me of the old Soviet Union and the Iron Curtain. They would not allow information to be shared for everyone's "protection" from the corrupt western block.

JH: If the internet is a trap, why is it that so many elders have internet?

It was said best in George Orwell's Animal Farm: "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others."

minimus, me too. I remember grabbing "Visions of Glory" and reading it at the library. I was to scared to check it out. I remember feeling guilty and fearful that something bad would happen to me for reading apostate literature--I was still under mind control.

I started out in 1992 with my apostate picket signs and bumper stickers. The WWW was still in it's infancy.I can remember going to the prestigious Boston Copley place Library. The Library had 6 PC Internet terminals that went unused because they were practically useless.Slow logins and frequent disconnects made it unusable Right around this time i met with David Reed, Joe Rizoli,Steve Hassan and heard about Randy Watters in California.I was still bent on my old fashioned picket signs and bumper stickers. In 1997 I composed a 'squeal' letter to all the 50 states regarding the Watchtower's tax evasion : http://dannyhaszard.com/taxletter.htm Two years ago my own site went up:Watchtower Whistle Blower www.DannyHaszard.com The WWW is an effective delivery system.Devastating inroads are being made against the Watchtower cult on the information superhighway. Knowledge is power you are busted buddy!

Curious as to how these dub's were supposedly "taken advantage of." Whatever. Sounds like newest scare tactic.

Black sheep on your comment earlier...

It always bothered me how we were always warned by the Org in such a way that made us feel as if we didn't have any sense at all. It was insulting to me at times to be classified as one so naive and foolish. I supposed they thought if we were so easily fooled into being JWs maybe we would be easily fooled in the other direction too. I was a fooled fool at the time--I admit it now.
