A tense standoff centred around a couple's apparent defiance of a child apprehension order is continuing in a residential neighbourhood of (blanked out).
Shortly after midnight, police tried to enforce a Children's Aid Society apprehension order.
"We were refused entry into the home, and at that point the male inside barricaded himself," said Const.(blank)
Around 2 a.m., police approached the house a second time and were met by at least one gunshot. No one was injured.
Police have been unsuccessfully trying to make contact since then.
"There's bullet holes in my windows ... several," (edited), who lives across the street, told reporters.
She also woke up to find a police sniper in her kitchen.
Other people in the neighborhood were advised by police to stay in their basements.
(blank) said she knows knows the home's occupants from TV news reports, adding they had a baby girl just before Christmas.
"His partner seems to have arrived in the last two weeks with their infant child ...,"
A judge named the society the infant's legal guardian and issued the apprehension order in January.
minister of community services, said a society worker investigated the home and found the child to be in some sort of "imminent danger.
"Clearly they must have come to that conclusion and were taking what they deemed to be the appropriate steps," he said.
(Blank) said the entire situation is now just a waiting game as police continue to try and make contact with those inside the home.
"They're being very cautious because a child is inside the home ... and it's already been made clear that a person inside is prepared to pull the trigger," she said.
