Okay then Steve do silent farts smell?

If you are interested I will give you my amateur science answer.Scientist Since energy cannot be created nor destroyed then whatever energy would have gone to producing that which our auditory senses would turn into a sensation of sound (though relatively little energy is involved compared to that released by a falling tree) would be changed into another form of energy such as the force of pounding an imperceptively larger crater.

    siegswife:

All of the energy exists even if an auditary impression doesn't.

    Perhaps.

The universe must be a continuum (down to the "void" spaces between the nucleus and electrons), at least in terms of its physical nature.

Or, the universe must be discontinuous (as a quantum-mechanical Heisenberg non-definability).

God must love this stuff! Ya gotta luv the 'guy.' LOL

    Craig,

I hereby pass on the "mental-masturbating" baton to Steve.

Go for it, man! Run like hell was burning your heels.

    LOL

eeeeewwwwwhh, I guess I'm still a little fundie. Somehow that sounds nasty. Oh well, I will probably feel like running if Alan shows up. Six

Steve, I think you're overdramatizing the issue. All you're really saying is "we've been wrong about what-*stuff*-is all along." Yes?

Hey Six, I usually under dramatize. However, when Einstein arrived at this conclusion he said "it was like having the earth ripped out from underneath my feet". Maybe he was over dramatizing? And Ona, why so gloomy: "It will never be figured out". Maybe all we need is another leap to a new scientific paradigm and Everything will fit together. As to

when what it is is figured out, once again it will be scientist who explain it to us, not philosophers and sure as hell not religious nuts.

This is a discussion of our nearly one hundred year old understanding of subatomic physics explained by a group of scientist in the 1920's who gave us what is called Quantum Physics building on the discoveries of Albert E. We agree completely that "it will be scientist who explain it to us". However even Neils Bohr, a leading scientist of the original group in the 1920's when knighted by his native country chose the Yin/Yang symbol as his coat of arms. Perhaps he saw the need for a radically new paradigm to understand what he had found. Jst2laws

: The "tree falling in a vacuum" scenario is not only hypothetical, it's impossible: there is no vacuum in the universe.

Baloney. Ever been to the Kingdom Hall?

    That's it! That's it!!!!!!!!

Baloney fills all the voids of the universe.

Steve, just you keep on holding that baton...roflmao

    Ona,

As finite beings in an apparently infinite universe, there are an infinite number of perspectives required to have a "good grasp" of the issues. As we accumulate perspectives, we "think" we have the answers, but we don't.

    What? That was good, Craig.

It's never over, and there are no final answers

Now there you go again. Why so negative. Isn't it true that for the first time in human exploration that science, philosophy, and even the mystics are on the same page (no religion isn't there. they are still sacrificing souls). Is it possible the slight stall over the last few decades is because physicists are reluctant to take the leap? Six,

    Have entrails, will strangle Priest

Hehe, I hate violence. But that WAS FUNNY. Bikerchic, I'm working on an answer to your question, "do silent farts smell". I am about one and a half hours into a bean/guacamole/sour cream dip experiement and well have the results in about an hour. Steve

Not negative, imo. One of the most freeing and positive experiences in my life is to finally realize that what I think is all that matters; it sounds very egotistical, but such is life.

Isn't it true that for the first time in human exploration that science, philosophy, and even the mystics are on the same page (no religion isn't there. they are still sacrificing souls).

No, I don't think so. The convergence has a long way to go (think differential calculus).

Is it possible the slight stall over the last few decades is because physicists are reluctant to take the leap?

No, I don't think so. Physicists are like AlanF: "show me the facts, and only the facts."

That can never, in absolute objectivity, happen.

    Craig

PS (No offense to Alan intended, as he well knows )

LOL hun you don't have to go to all that scientific experimental trouble just to make give me an answer, I have the answer all you have to do is ask me! Bwhahahhahahahaaaa if you dare, bwhahahahha!!!

OK Kate, The results of my experiment are in regarding "do silent farts smell?" The answer is Yes, under one, two or both of the following conditions.

1 If an organic olfactory sensing system is present to detect the airborne particles and interpret their presence as "smell". 2 If the fart is of a superior organic source, such as my gastro-intestinal system, they can be detected as "smell" not only by those equipped with olfactory systems but even by inorganic structures with no sensory system at all. They can also be detected as thunderous sound waves, as seismic disturbances, as radiation, heat, they sometimes have antimatter effects, and have been known to cause angels to fall from the sky with a disturbing plume of acid etched feathers.

But I am consoled by the fact that my research has contributed to the wealth of scientific knowledge. Jst2laws PS, WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THIS THREAD?
