hilary_step... it is much less than a butterfly flapping it's wings, quantum physics proves you can influence the path of a photon just by observing it.

What's really scary is that Steve's wife is a medical professional, but nevertheless continues to allow him to run loose on the streets.

    realist,

: the uncertainty principle by itself does not state that particles are unreal unless observed. only a certain interpretation of this fact allows for the idea that without an observer there is really no particle.

Right. I think that is called the anthropic principle. The universe is the way it is, because if it were any different we would not be here.

    HS,

I'm following my thread like a kid on a roller coaster, but you made me feel like I can hold on and finish this ride.

No. What's REALLY scary is that your wife allows you to run loose on the internet without restraint and without a pacifier. Now, THAT's scary!

    Sorry, Steve. Couldn't resist.

I am always game for a little fireside philosophy, but quantumn physics means that you need to add figures. When I left school my long-suffering Mathematics teacher wrote just two words on my report, "Cheerfully Iincompetent". He was not wrong.

    Farkel,

You guys are all asking the wrong question. The REAL question is:

"If a man speaks in a forest and there is no woman to hear him, is he still wrong?"

    Farkel

Stop that Fark. You know most of us are married and want to stay that way. (whatever the cost)

There you go. Science can no longer stand by with a clip board and observe. The "leap" I referred to earlier was that the only way they can grow further is to accept they are no longer observers, but participants. But that means their reality is relative to their own experience. Is the problem that science is still locked into the Newtonian perspective and cannot take the leap to a new paradigm?

Matter exists based on its probability to be in a certain state at a given point in space time, but our perception only affects that probability, not the existence itself.

It absolutely exists, it is all by "perception". But what else matters to those who perceive it?

    Realist,

I would assume that no one on this forum is competent to really discuss the validity of either side.

If you are as astute as you seem, that assumption is the only statement I might counter.

Keep contributing and we will see.

After decades of running different businesses I have come to the conclusion that I do not have to be an expert at every aspect of what makes the whole process work. I lean on those who are good at what they do. When is comes to math I just look at the outcome of their work and the confirmation they receive from their contemporaries. Good enough for me and I don't have to devote years of my life to their specialty.

Nope, I will not "add figures". Too much work for a neophyte like me.
