Intruiging. I know that you know that Quackenbush was not unaffected by his reading of CofC. I am quite sure that most in Writing and all the GB would have read it,
LOL. Yes, they did, according to him. They wanted to see what Ray had to say about them.
whether it affected their outlook, one way or another is a different story.
Obviously, not enough.
The GB member that I know who read it became very antagonistic about the whole affair, from a previously disinterested viewpoint. He standard defence was that "it is all lies". I can understand those with managerial positions to protect taking a more pragmatic view of things exposed in the book.
Yes, a circle the wagons approach to the whole thing. Truth be damned.
Your wife however suprises me, especially as she seemed reasonable enough to discuss its contents. How is she these days?
Well, in my post she is my ex-wife and I don't know what she's doing these days. LOL. It all came down to one thing really. She was resolute in staying in the JWs. I remember she didn't see a religious alternative out there to the Watchtower, so her decision was to stick with what was the best out there, even if it had warts. By now she may be out, but I don't know. Our discussions over the years of a very long, protracted breakup, separation and eventual divorce left her with a complete view of the dark side of Watchtower. By now the information may have percolated enough to have moved her to leave, but I don't know. Last I heard, she had met someone else, and he had agreed to convert to the JWs for her so they could marry. She felt terribly alone going to the hall by herself.
In retrospect I wish I had been more understanding and kind in dealing with her doubts. But I was in such shock and so angry and upset when I figured out I'd been lied to by the WT Society I was blind to her feelings of shock and devastation. We had a nice life and it must have really torn her up that her husband would turn against the Society and totally upend our lives as we knew them.
