One would think French, but being that vast majority of those deaths are in Africa, no one cares.

Malaria alone kills over 1,000,000 people each year. 90% of the cases are in Africa. Just another example how the Industrialized world continous to let Africa rot because it doesnt care. Seen any "We must rid the world of Malaria!" Topics on this site? Out of site, out of mind. Im sure if CNN or FOX was in Africa there would be huge outrage- "Something must be done!" Oh well. Im just rambling. From time to time we must remember that we are not the only people on this earth.

I am not sure how one can be against all of war. Am I against this war? Yes. Does that mean that if an invasion happened I would not fight? Hell no. But allow me to choose what I support!

    Crazy,

You go fight the mosquito wars. I am sure the world will be a much safer place with you chasing mosquitos.

I find it interesting that poems written by soldiers express the desire to protect freedom, and poems that are written against war express the destruction of freedoms.

What is an ironic if sobering thought is that persons like Owen, Brooke and Sassoon, those who expressed a dismay at the the progess and the waste of innocence in war were also among the most courageous and highly decorated soldiers in the field. It is also ironic and a *fact* that many who argue smugly for the perpetuation of warfare are those who have never even picked up a gun in their lives, let alone aimed one at another human and pulled the trigger. These poets killed, much of their poetry was a catharis at their own self loathing for doing so.

We all know that warfare is neccessary at times, but your statement above does not dignify either those who fight in wars nor those who oppose them.

    Best regards - HS

What I find disgusting is that this thread was about a beautiful poem written by a young man serving his country and so few could find something good to say about it.

This poem was posted on a site with over 5000 Marine Moms and their families and no one started on a ant-war or political kick. (Including the Gold Star Moms) who have lost loved ones in this and other wars......

I was thinking the same thing Sheila.

I'm sorry that this happened to a wonderful post.

Just know that some of us are proud of your son and his comrades!

    Shelia,

i am very grateful for your son, b/c i know that b/c of him and others, i can sleep safely in my bed at night. Militant groups are not roaming the streets and breaking into my homes and killing people.(like what is currently going on in Sudan)

I'm with JWBOT on this one :

Sorry Sheila : 5000 Moms how much more (... all those kids ...)

Simon, I hope you dont have any no-stick teflon frying pans.

How wany people here refuse to use technology that was developed for war?

PTFE or polytetrafluoroethylene was discovered on April 6, 1938 by Dr. Roy Plunkett at the DuPont research laboratories (Jackson Laboratory in New Jersey). Plunkett was working with gases related to Freon® refrigerants when upon checking a frozen, compressed sample of tetrafluoroethylene, he and his associates discovered that the sample had polymerized spontaneously into a white, waxy solid to form polytetrafluoroethylene or PTFE.

PTFE was first marketed under the DuPont Teflon ® trademark in 1945. The molecular weight of Teflon can exceed 30,000,000, making it one of the largest molecules known. The surface is so slippery, virtually nothing sticks to it or is absorbed by it. No wonder Teflon was choosen to be used on non-stick cooking pans.

What were soldiers going to do? Hit poeple with frying pans? Feed them fried food to get their colestorol to dangerously high levels?!

Well, I posted at the time of Sept 11 that while 3,000 people dying was a terrible thing, surely the 30,000 children under 5 that dies EACH AND EVERY DAY is far worse?

Maybe because they are poor people from the 3rd world means that their deaths count less?
