e.e. cummings is awesome!
there once was a young seeker named caine. he met a teacher called master po. on his path to enlightnment, he was given the new name "grasshopper". master po always presented a pebble to grasshopper to see if grasshopper could snatch it from his hand, to signify his wisdom...but grasshopper never could. this made him impatient, and he asked "when will i be ready to leave?" and master po always said "when you can snatch the pebble from my hand".
(that is where "Grasshopper" comes from. )
filip is a poet! (Even if you found it instead of wrote it, filip, that is an amazing example of creative connection.) I am encouraged. filip, you have intelligence, heart, and depth. You have hard choices ahead of you, but I am confident you will come out of it stronger and braver. Whatever choices you make, don't give up being you. You are a very interesting young man.
AlanF ... my churlish mindset tells me you are a nasty, unhappy individual ... oops ... we are sidetracking here ...
Just a quick comment though ... there are more than one family around like the one you have described who never even heard of JWs. Read any newspapers lately or watch the news ... nothing new here.
Chris (mod) said to start another subject ...
AFIN, only people with weak arguments resort to name-calling. AlanF is real, honest, and genuine. It comes out in every word he speaks.

Not churlish. I'm sure you're a nice guy. I said cultish mindset.

Ho hum. The stereotypically JW ad hominem.
And in the usual JW way, you completely missed the point: bringing up kids in a harsh manner, like you obviously advocate, more often than not results in completely messed up kids. On the other hand, leniency, respect for your kids' ability to think and decide for themselves, and refusing to bring them up in a nasty cult usually results in them becoming decent, competent and loving adults. My daughter, for example, at age 14 decided on her own that the JW cult was no longer for her, and so so left her JW mother and came to live with me (my ex had by that time alienated her two teenage stepdaughters, who also quit the JW cult as result). She's done extremely well for herself, graduating high school with a straight A average, and is now studying physics in college. I rarely have ever had to tell her what to do, and have always tried to discuss things and convince her -- not always successfully -- of the right way to view or do something. She's also a very sweet, loving young lady.I think that the results speak for themselves.

While that's true, only JWs claim that little Caesars like Caesar Smith, who for many years was the Congregation Servant and then the Presiding Overseer, were "appointed by holy spirit" to positions of authority. Since you're obviously of the opinion that Caesar was a lousy father for his kids, it follows that he was a lousy overseer and a lousy Christian. You therefore have two choices about his appointment as an overseer: either God messed up in appointing him, or the Society's teaching that overseers are appointed by holy spirit (God's power) is false. Take your pick.
