Out of seven kids here (me, hubby, and 5 total assorted sibs between his family and mine) 5 are out, one is inactive and one is a very depressed, unhappy WT study conductor Elder.

    6/7 ain't bad.

Scoob, not pooping anyone's b ubble here, just the fact that the family you speak of is the rare exception and not the rule is enough to make me happy.

my mother was a first generation JW....recruited at a young age. Both my little brother and I were raised JW and we are both out. Its funny though because I have found out that EVERY SINGLE one of the young people my age in my old congregation are out. Not only are they out but they live lives as strippers, pimps, drug dealers, etc.

It goes to show how JW's can corrupt these young minds. If I hadn't moved from that cong when i did i might be doing the same things.

There was another thread recently with a similar thought....

I am 4th generation and only my parents are left in but that is largely due to the older folks dying off.

I do think it is odd though that I look at the generation of people my age when I was in the org and now all these years later (I am 40 now and out for 15+ years) and most have left in one way or another. Some DF's (returned and DF'd again in some cases), some like me who DA'd and others who are fading. I am not talking about just my old congo either....most of the people my age even in several other "halls" in Vermont and New Hampshire were affected. It just seems strange to think that from time to time a whole generation of jw kids simply disappears.

My family shows a similar trend. My parents were both raised in the lie. Between them and their siblings, only 3 of 11 have come out. Between the kids of that generation (me, my siblings, and my cousins), 10 of 15 are out.

12 years ago all of my family were JWs. My parents, 6 kids, their spouses and, at the time, 10 grandkids attending meetings. Two of us were elders and my dad was once a "servant" and later an MS (he declined to be an elder). Of the 6 kids, 1 plus the spouse are still in and the spouse of another sibling still attends. Of the 10 grandchildren, 2 got baptized and then left. 7 left and will never attend again. One youngster still gets dragged to meetings and an 11th has since been born to the only couple still in. The two elders were deleted and then faded.

The WTS could once count 25 of my family as meeting attendees. On a good day they can count 7. My parents don't attend as frequently as they once did. They know about the UN scandal and while they sill "believe" I think this is habit rather than conviction. Having seen 3 siblings quit the one grandchild's chance of staying through to baptism is slim.

While there are some examples of extended JW families, in my experience they are very rare. My family was one of those. My mom loved to boast about how they raised their kids in the "truth". They had elders, MS and pioneers in the family. It doesn't take long to see two generations quit. I think we are a great example now!

The young ones who actually leave the religion form one pattern. Another pattern I see comprises young ones who stay but who are chronically apathetic, a sure drain on the Watchtower:

Of all my young cousins who are third generation JWs none are active, but because of family ties, they still identify themselves as JWs.

But I think 50-75% of the young ones leave. When I was a teenager, 50% of us ended up leaving. And that was WAY before the internet.

This is one old older aging elderely senior real cool young at heart dude who said over 20 years ago that the young ones in their teens and twenty's were able to see the hypocrosy and bs much more than the so-called adults and were not afraid to make their feelings known (like rebelling and saying screw it all).

I for one never have and never will discredit those who are younger than me. At least they have the balls to be true to themselves.

5 of us (2 sisters 2 brothers) out of the bunch only my sister is still a dub. Both of my parents and my step mom have all faded. 1/5

I have 2 aunts and 4 uncles that were raised dubs. out of them 3 are still active 3/7

That being said, one of my uncles only recently came back after being faded for 5 years. My aunt came back after being faded for nearly 20. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a lot of these young deserters come back to the borg. After all if 30% of the DF'd and DA'd come back I can only imagine how many more of the faded return.

I think the WT is going to be hurting in 15-20+yrs when there are no brothers left to fill the MS and particularly Elder positions in the congregations. These young ones leaving are supposedly those future ones. Bodies of elders are shrinking at a slow but steady rate and with no one to replace them, whats going to happen?
