The Young Witness Exodus Continues

...but...but...SCOOBS! You are about to reduce the society by one. Surely you count towards the statistics.

I noticed that a bunch of young families show up for the CO's visit and then disappear again. Our lone eligible single girl left for another congregation to improve her prospects. I see a brief exodus through the teen to early twenties, and a return when they become parents themselves. Probably because the KH is the only spirituality they know. These new young parents, though, don't seem as manically dedicated as the widowed grannies, who never expected to grow old. Or live in abject poverty.

Neo hit the nail on yet another trend - Young Witnesses who explicitly tell their parents they want nothing to do

with the Watchtower - despite being immersed in it from infancy.

In years past, I never heard of such a thing happening. Kids quietly slipped away and paid lip service to being

in the "truth". The Watchtower needs to emphasize college - not discourage it. It may be the only leverage

Witness parents have over their nearly adult children.

In Canada especially - or any place where multi-culturalism is promoted wide open.

Young people are coached by TV, peers, social settings like the classroom, to voice their opinnion, stand up for what they think is right
and in a very loud voice JUST SAY NO - no to drugs, no to peer pressure, no to bullying (including that of parents LOL) no to abuse.
Lots of kids now-a-days recognize abuse in most of its forms by the way it makes them feel about themselves.

Sadly many still have no voice.

Education is extremely important! Kids today are way more progressive & tolerant, which in turn they demand more for themselves -
even more so than us from the ground-breaking, stone-age 60s LOL

    will.

I don't know about an "Exodus." My older sister, 20 years, just got baptised. Sometimes she can be a real bitch when she's playing righteous JW

dude I have one of those too! The self righteous sister who managed to get knocked up 3 times by the same crackhead...pathetic..

My borther and I are out, along with most of my cousins, so with my immediate family there my dad, mum, little sister w/Down's Syndrome and the self righteous sister...at least my sister with Down's will never have the looming guilt, doubts about stupid doctrine and all that. I would imagine that she will live out her life as happy as she can be, because my mom really does take care of her...How nice would that be? Blissfully ignorant of all the horsecrap they shovel to the congregation..

    Sincerely,

I wasn't born into the troof, so I was in and out in one generation and not so much as a droplet of baptism water - yay me. :)

So out of my mum, my sister, and me - that's one inactive-but-believing-most-of-it witness still left (mum), one who can't be arsed either way (sister) and one neverevereverever going to believe it again - me.

Of course mum thinks it's *her* fault we're not baptised...

I saw a picture of a bunch of my old witness friends that was taken about ten years ago. Out of the 15 of us there are 3 that are still witnesses.

A comment about those who leave when they are young and sometimes come back: I think its because they never look into the religion and explore their doubts. There is still a looming fear of armageddon and death around every corner, so they come back. Whats the worst are those guys that get df'ed then come back, claiming they have 'seen what the world has to offer' and become super gung ho apostle Paul type idealists. They did exactly what the tower told them that the world was all about.. drugs, sex, alcohol.. become complete down and out losers then return to the intellectual mire of the JW's because they don't know any better. Those guys always used to crack me up.

The posts on this thread are truly good news and this is happening in other cults as well. As Minimus said, despite the exodus, "they still crack the whip." Stupid men given power making stupid decisions to the detriment of many. One day, no more WTS - a good day indeed!

I am a second generation Jdub. My husband is also a second generation Jdub.

Both of us have mentally left the org and biding our time until we can make a formal exit.

We have many friends in the org that are on the so called "fringes".

Many of us in this situation have children. Our children are reaching the teen years. I can guarantee that most of our children will not pursue "the truf".

Indeed the exodus will continue at an alarming rate in the next 5 -10 years.

Perhaps it will be our children that will cause watchtowers demise.

I look forward to that day with eager anticipation.

In my family we were 13 JWs, counting the extended family members like wives, nieces and nephews.

Out of 13, 3 is out.

But this is not what I see in the area I grew up. I have seen cases where the whole family but 1 boy is out (this boy after some backs and forths stayed clearly for social reasons; nowhere to go...)

Another family of the same Hall, whose parents lived in the back of Hall (the father was an "elder"), the situation got so bad that they had to vacate the house they were living: out of 4 children, 1 is in.

I think the real reason they leave is that when most people leave home they have to follow their faith for THEMSELVES rather than for their parents. For kids in most religions that means accepting some beleifs and rejecting others. Jehovah's Witnesses kids don't have that freedom. You either fall in to the rank and file or there's no place for you. It's like a teacher expelling every student who doesn't get straight A's.

VERY few religions do this. Even the ones that have stricter standards than the JW's don't insist that their members are 100% active and faithful 100% of the time. Most churches will still consider you a member even if you smoke crack. JW's will refuse to even SPEAK to you if you get caught smoking your first joint.
