    Stromboli,

Pole: I could answer but pepheuga wrote it so you should ask him or you could research it yourself.....

Got it. Don't know why I confused you with pepheuga. Still I'd be interested in your answer (you seem to claim to have one). We're talking about JP2, right?

Pole mussolini made trains come on time do you like him too??

Oh, well. So now you're comparing JP2 to Mussolini. No offence, but you need some tips on making intelligent arguments, dude. Here is a good site on how to avoid logical fallacies. You've just used a straw man.

John Paul II...I remember just HATING him as a JW because I was trained to. HE was misleading the entire world, and HE KNEW the Truth!(tm)

Then, I left...and really started looking. He fought to end communism, but for social justice. He was, like most of the RC heirarchy, way behind on contraception and women's issues, but he fought for labor unions, relief, the third world, mideast peace, and against the death penality. He takes the life thing seriously.

Not my religous leader...I'm a Quaker. But he's done a lot more good than any harm. Plus, he owns a copy of "Thriller".

    Pole:

I was fully aware that you could have argued that but note that I didn't compare jp2 with mussolini I compared a fallacy with a fallacy my friend. The comparison should have pointed you to the fallacy in your argument, but it didn't...... I was trying to be polite

You are listing positives to nagate negatives wich are unrelated. I don't know how it's called in that site

I would like to point out to you too (as you didn't read the posts of course) that I used the words "Not Intelligent Either" with somebody that call me and others "Fools", I don't usualy do it but in that case I thought it was fair enough. So I would be more cautios as how you use that word as it's very easy (as you have seen) to misplace it

    Stromboli,

The Pope forgave his would-be assassin; I firmly believe he would forgive you too for all your negative comments about him. And, whether you spit or laugh at me, I forgive you too. I'm trying to imitate his example.

Now don't be harsh with me Kenneson I wouldn't of couse spit on you nor on the pope (the person). I meant the JW org and the Catholic org.

I wouldn't laugh AT you but I could use a bit of sarcasm and cynicism. I hope you will allow that. No harm intended.

You are a christian and I love you for that my friend. I just provoked you (not you personaly) to provoke critical thinking of both sides not just against JWs. I have no will nor the authority to judge you. So I have nothing to forgive you. You have done nothing against me. But if you are too one sided against JWs and not critical enough with catholics you have done something against yourself. Do not trust man. any.........

May Jesus have mercy on us and Jehovah be Glorified in him

If you read my post again, you'll see that I explicitly said I have nothing to say about pope's policies. All I said was that I think he is/was a remarkable man (and not a cynical politician). The efficiency of the Catholic hierarchical system and their policies are another story. I have no emotional investment in defending them. Now where did I negate the negatives in my original post? Please show me?

The word "intelligent" (argument) was a sort of an ad hominem qualifier indeed. Sorry if you got it that way - I was in a hurry writing this post.

You didn't list negatives and I didn't say you did. I wrote "listing positives" wich you did.

Now there are 2 scenarios here:

    A) By "listing positives" you were implying that that was countering my negatives.

    or

    B) You remarcs were unrelated to mine so your post could have being anywhere else.

    you choose......

he is/was a remarkable man (and not a cynical politician).

Note that you are still making that mistake as the quality you listed and being "a cynical politician" are not mutualy exclusive. I don't have a site to point you to but I can tell you that knowing the name of a logical fallacy comes after being able to de-compose the argument.

Hating Catholics and making fun of the pope is a bad old protestant JW habit.

True enough, still irritating, was then, is now.

As far as starting a thread *just to piss off an entire group of our members* um...seems juvenile, but whatever floats yer boat there, Stromboli. I didn't understand that this was a joke.

    You are forgiven, my child.

    J

Edited to add: btw, how old are you, kiddo?

The pope is a good man. He is the faithful leader of the world's largest Christian church. It is really nasty what some of you have said.
