greendawn and jaffacake - The end of the System, and the coming of Armageddon is one serious obsession with the JWs Cult movement and I suppose really their whole raison d'etre.

But how they chose which prophecies to interpret literally and which not is something that revolves around their One and Only point, the Kingdom is coming, we're all going to die at Armageddon if we're not out selling the W and A mags and WTBTS publications. The fact that much of the info in the present day literature is contrary to info in literature of the past means nothing to the R&F. Just fear of that Kingdom and the EVER IMMINENT War of Armageddon is all that registers.

I believe that some of the elderly witnesses have seen the nonsense of the change in doctrine of 1995 but sadly too late to relive their lost lives.

The reason for my asking this simpleton question is:

I was thinking about my relatives who are roughly my age having been JWs from birth, so really they are a little closer than new comers to knowing the truth of the origins of the WTBTS. They're pretty intelligent.

I wondered when they may begin doing 'the math' and work out how long ago it is since 1874 and how long ago since 1914 and then, maybe, wonder?

When will they do the Math!!!!!!!?????????

It's not a simpleton question mate.It is their central CORE dogma and the # 1 reason i renounced the Watchtower cult.

I have cut my baby teeth on all the subterfuges (Jonadabs etc) and heard them all

I was born JW 3rd gen in 1957 to pioneer parents that say's it....

In my lifetime I've seen the Jehovah franchise go from specifics and particulars to generalities.

    Why?

The more specific you are; the more of a target you place on the ___possibility__of disproof.

Dates are the albatross around the FDS collective neck.

The only date that they cannot dispense with (since it eliminates THEM) is 1914.

I recall how impressed I was with all the math (nonsense) used by JW's to prove their points. The swirling array of "absolute dates" and "day for a year" blabber seemed to transform the religious aspects more into a science than anything else.

I was downright proud to jabber about these numbers to people I met; fully expecting them to be impressed (and defeated) too.

Over the years I've become aware how vulnerable all those mushy and arbitrary numbers really are and how huge a hole it places in Watchtower credibility.

No doubt. the Governing Body (since the invention of the Internet) has felt the blows as more and more people can see the full extent of the flip-flopping chaos that use to appear to be math science.

The more general their doctrines become the more it necessitates a clampdown of AUTHORITY (rather than persuasion of the mind).

We now mostly have a barracks of browbeaten lackeys genuflecting to the whims of a self-appointed annointed; weilding a big stick of pure bullshit.

DannyHaszard - and Terry , That being the case then, will the legal department have to OK all the New Light that Jehovah is giving to the FDS, in their wisdom and to avoid any possible legal action in the future, (or sensible people seeing the truth), will it be up to the legal department to decide what New light is dispensed and which would be a liability?

This is THE issue that caused me to start questioning, and that was back in 1987-1988. I felt that for decades the Watchtower had been saying that the end was near, but that some time it had to actually ARRIVE. I started my research, notably reading CofC and that did it for me.

The US Census Bureau says that in

1990 there were 250,437 people 95 and over

2000 there were 337,238 people 95 and over

People are living longer folks and the baby boomers are pushing the numbers up too.

Don't count out the 1914 generation yet

It would be interesting to know what difference the last five years has made to those figures and what the world wide figures are for people of 100 and over. There are supposed to be twenty men in the UK who are aged over 100 and saw the first world war.

Having said all that, I am glad that people are living longer in our modern society!

The WTBTS will only change the definition of "generation", find an elaborated way to justify it to themselves, and go back to their cozy and predictable little cult.

There was another thread on this not to long ago...I believe it was two pages...mentions the year 1935 as to when the remnant were sealed.

    Snoozy...

    Hi Snoozy! Thanks!

If 1935 was 'the date the remnant was sealed' then surely that's a figure they've held up that they can't wriggle around.
