Cook at home or eat out?

I have to hold my hands up and admit to being a lousy cook. I can get by on the basics, and I have just managed to crack co-ordinating beans on toast. I find it a chore, although I do like making desserts...I try to limit the amount of takeaways I eat as well, I really should make an effort to source some healthy recipe ideas.

I prefer to eat out but it fairly makes a dent in the old purse.

I'm with Scully--I cook all the time and stock up, much cheaper for me than eating out. The only exception is seafood--here it's cheaper to buy a fish fry at a restaurant or take out than buying the fish and making it yourself. Also I can control the calories and ingredients.

I did not know how to cook when I escaped from my parents' house. My control freak mother refused to allow me to do anything that would foster independence. I bought a Betty Crocker cookbook, which tells how to select items in the grocery and all different ways to prepare them, in simple language.

Now I own a LOT more cookbooks and consider myself a pretty good cook. I even make my own ice cream. We have tons of great restaurants per capita in my area--we're known for that--so I do go out once a week or so just because I enjoy it.

But yeah, I'm really mad if I get anything with canned mushrooms or processed cheese! Eww.

Plastic gloves mean nothing unless they change them right before waiting on you!

They are still a barrier between you and the server. My understanding is that was the main purpose of the gloves--not to observe sterile technique but to provide a barrier between you and the server's hands, to ensure you don't get sick from the doo-doo residue from servers with Hepatitis A who don't wash their hands after going to the bathroom.

I love to cook, and I have lost 16lb in the last 3 months by not eating any processed food at all, but just making all my meals from fresh ingredients.

A chef in the UK just did a programme on how awful school dinners are (Jamie Olivers School Dinners) and he showed the kids in one school how chicken nuggets were made, and every single kid at my school that saw it swore they would never eat nuggets again - they will, but at least it made them think for 5 seconds.

Cooking is one of my favorite hobbies, but my recipes are never simple. I like to experiment with different layers of flavor as to not make the food boring. I can make a pot au feu that'll give you an oralgasm.

Since I've been learning to cook, I don't care to eat out at all (except for fast food, which can't be duplicated by earthly means). Nothing I get in a 'quality' restaurant tastes good to me anymore. I've become extremely picky when it comes to flavor, and if the food isn't seasoned just right I can't eat it.

Oooh, I need to adopt that term! I usually use 'foodgasm'.

Depends on who is cooking and where were eating out at. Seafood is much better when someone else makes it.

Ah, but you see Jeannie, that's enough to feed six (if not eight) people, so you still come out ahead!

Obviously, you have never had any of my lasagne. No one can stop at a 'normal' serving. It is a big pan of lasagne... J

Sounds yummy, jeannie! My mother makes a killer lasagna too. I find it a chore, so I don't bother with it (so lazy). I will make eggplant parm, though. I love the stuff...and it's easier. LOL
