Psychiatrists say that 1 in 4 people are mentally ill. Check three of your friends. If they're ok, then it's you.

    Excellent, Scully.

I agree that there are mental elders taking the lead. Perhaps Ted Jaracz has a reason to appoint these guys.

In the JW realm that would be 1 out of 2.

I swear, there are so many nuts in there!

I can think of twelve old losers in New York that all are mentally f...ed in the head.

Gary very funny... But for some real circus type mental illness shouldn't we say "5 in 1" persons are metally unstable? That would account for all of those old Walking Smurfs and Satanic beings reaching into JW's beds at night .

Dustin, there's only TEN old losers on the governing Body right now, which means that one of them is only half crazy.

I wonder who the other one is who is completely nuts, other than Herr Ted-meister?

I have to say that the incidence of mental illness among JW is much greater than we realize. I have had many conversations with doctors and specialist who say that there is a great number of witnesses who have mental illness but they don't believe they are afflicted by it. You know denial.

My family doctor. John B Fitzsimons, alone told me of all of his JW patients many suffer some form of mental illness or mental anguish, anxiety levels are elevated and as they try to be strong in the congregation puts a tremendous load of quilt on their members. Because they are afraid they don't measure up to the standards placed upon them by the WTS. He has quite an indepth understanding of the witnesses because most of his patients are JWs. They all tell him their intiment problems at home and in the Kingdom Hall. He said I be shocked at what secrets he knows. When I go to his office its not uncommon to see several witnesses waiting to see them . I love to see them squirm when I walk in as all of them know that he is my doctor too.

Three years ago I was a study at the Toronto General Hospital under the care of one doctor, "Susan Abbey", we spent three hour and a half with our first visit and I was being observed by several specialist behind a mirror window. They were so overwhelmed by my life as a JW that I was asked to return a week later and at that time I was there for 4 hours and once again being observed by these specialist. She told me that in all their studies with patients they only have one meeting to determine what course of action medically can be done for them as patients, but in my case they were so taken back by my life that they needed the extra information to use in literature on mental illness. I have to tell you it was one of the most enlightening sessions I have ever had with a psyciatrist.

She told me that their are millions of JWs who suffer mental illness and that is terribly high. She also stated that much of the mental illnesses in JWs was because of their upbringing in the organization. free of Armeggadon, fear of disfellowshipping or being gossiped about. Her knowledge of the witnesses was very insightful. These doctors must really be interested in how a cult brainwashes people into submission.

I have found this site and I thought some of you may like to read the statistics. It is very enlightening to say the least.

I know my mom has suffered from clinical depression since I can remember. Didn't know it till I got out and went thru nursing school. They tell me I'm bipolar, but who isn't in some way or other. Looking back, those that did show signs of mental illness were either the elders and MS's, or the ones they played on their emotions. After a suicide attempt, years ago, the dr's didn't know what to do with me. The first thing they did was to deny any visitors that were JWs--including my parents.

When I did my psych rotation, there was a JW patient there. All she was worried about was the elders finding out she was there. It was sad.

I think most of the elders suffer from "grandiose delusions" and "paranioa"! I can see them doing the "thorazine shuffle".

If it's true, it doesn't say much for JWD, does it?
